Chevrolet's New Technology Parents Won't Want To Miss Out On

The world’s largest single-day auto event took place this past weekend- yep, the one that draws in 40,000 classic cars and 1.5 million people, and is otherwise known as the Woodward Dream Cruise. The turnout was better than ever. This year was especially exciting for Chevrolet, who could think of no better place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its precious Camaro than the annual Cruise.

Chevy kicked off the weekend early on Thursday and opened up the Lansing Grand River Assembly- known to many as the home of production for the Chevrolet Camaro- so that Camaro fanatics could get a peek at what goes on inside. The following morning, Camaro owners were invited to the “Camaros and Coffee” gathering before parading from the Renaissance Center (GM’s headquarters) and down Woodward Avenue. About 200 Camaros made their way out for the parade. Finally, on Saturday, Chevrolet had a special heritage collection at its display, where Camaro fanatics were able to view rare and milestone models from the muscle car’s six generations (which also included the all-new Camaro ZL1 and 1LE).

“Dream Cruise is such a big momentous event, which is right in the wheelhouse of what these people like to do,” Todd Christensen, Chevrolet marketing manager, told Detroit News. “It just felt right.”

We don’t know about you...but we agree with Mr. Christensen. Chevrolet definitely did it right this weekend at the 22nd Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Oh, and good news: The 2017 Camaro ZL1 and 1LE are now available for order...we’ll let you know more about their arrival.

Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad At It Again

This Saturday, August 20, the 2016 Woodward Dream Cruise will be taking place and who better to be in charge of keeping the classics on the road than Chevrolet? For the the fifth consecutive year, the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad will be on deck in six 2016 Chevrolet Silverado trucks to assist the cruisers who may have any issues with their classics.

Throughout the last five years of Chevrolet’s participation, the volunteer technicians have serviced about 200 vehicles of all makes and models. This year, about 40,000 classic cars are expected to participate in the event.

Scott Williams, Chevrolet Certified Service Marketing Marketing Manager stated, “Classic car lovers take great care of their vehicles, but unforeseen issues can crop up, especially given the long hours of the Dream Cruise. The professional technicians from the Chevrolet Certified Rescue Squad look forward to keeping this year’s classics on the road, cruising."

Looking for some advice before you hit the road? Here are some suggestions the Rescue Squad has to offer:
  • Be sure your car battery is charged, the terminals are clean and check for any wear and tear on the alternator belt and distributor cap
  • Check all fluid levels and bring extra to top off when you may need it
  • Check the pressure and condition of all tires
  • Be sure your wiper blades are in good condition- just in case
This year’s Dream Cruise should be a good one, all thanks to Chevy!

Both of these models have been built to deliver unparalleled performance- on and off the track. The ZL1 will be available in both coupe and convertible models. The 1LE will be available in a V-6 LT model, as well as a V-8 SS model.

The ZL1 is powered by the supercharged LT4 6.2-liter V-8 engine, producing 650 horsepower. It will achieve 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds at 127 mph. The Camaro LT 1LE will accomplish 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, whereas the SS trim will hit 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

Chevy's Best Corvette Yet: The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport

Entering the seventh-generation of Corvette, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport is Chevrolet’s best yet. As most Jefferson City ‘Vette fanatics are aware, the Grand Sport name has been around for 53 years... but has only been given to three vehicles- the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, 1996 C4 Corvette Grand Sport and the 2010 C6 model. So, though it goes without saying, this car is a big deal.

Powered by the LT1 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport produces 460 horsepower when combined with its tremendously loud exhaust. Options include the seven-speed manual transmission versus its eight-speed automatic transmission and of course, it is available in both coupe and convertible body styles. In addition, it flourishes all of the typical GS characteristics- Grand Sport Cup wheels, the blacked-out wide-mouth front grille, lowered hood and wide rear.

Jonathan Gitlin, the automotive editor at Ars Technica, spent a day with this beauty at the Atlanta Motorsports Park. “Should you buy one?”, he states. “The answer we think is a resounding yes, if you’re in the market for a capable sports car that can do double duty touring the country or or pounding out laps at the track. It’s cheaper than the European rivals like the 911 Carrera S or Ferrari California T but no less capable, and in our opinion is the best Corvette model yet.”

Already known for its exceptional control and predictable handling, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport is something we’re all dying to get our hands on at Mid-Missouri Powerhouse.
