We have been thoroughly enjoying the tail end of the spring season here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse, as it offers us many fresh faces, walk-ins for test drives, and opportunities to educate people about the benefits of owning your small slice of the nation’s best car brand! The 2025 Chevy Silverado HD has been on many truck lovers’ radar for the first half of the year now, as everyone is eager to learn more about any changes making an already great rig more capable and appealing. 

There will be new standard tech on some trim levels, a brand new Silverado HD Trail Boss edition, and many more goodies to eagerly assault the summer’s now-scorching asphalt. The Custom Trim Level will also offer a brand-new factory-installed Custom Blackout Package, which evokes a decadent tone while starting things off with 20-inch High gloss Black painted wheels. You also get to dance on dusk’s side of things with black badging, a black steering wheel emblem, black tailgate lettering, and a black bowtie available with the multi-flex tailgate. 

This is the first time black wheels have ever been available on the HD’s Custom trim level! The 20-inch high gloss black wheels are a brand-new design cooked up specifically for 2025 model-year vehicles, which requires selecting the black tailgate lettering decal when the standard tailgate code is ordered. This Custom Blackout Package replaces the once dealer-installed “Dark Essentials” Package, which was previously on Chevy Silverado HD’s Custom trim level. 

It can still be optioned on the High Country, LTZ, ZR2, LT, and WT trim levels. The Dark Essentials Package does not provide a change in wheel offering but still slaps on some very cool extras such as Black Silverado nameplates and Black Custom High Country badges. You’ll also be cruising with “candle-lit sentiment” courtesy of a very cool black bowtie and a black tailgate with CHEVROLET lettering. The 2025 Silverado’s Trail Boss package will also give those who are constantly experiencing wanderlust to flex a bit harder with extra off-road and aesthetic details. 

Production for next year’s model is currently scheduled to fire up in late July as the GM Flint plant in Michigan. The experts on duty at the Car and Driver staff spent a bit of time with this terrific truck and were thrilled about its proven diesel powertrain, and very high-tech trailer-assistance features. Anyone who has a long list of things to tow and abundant cargo to haul will find favor in this hard-working gem. They also pointed out the extreme value of the Convenience Package, which offers a 10-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, LED cargo-bed lighting, and remote start.

The 6.6-liter V8 is heartily rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, while the brawny Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 cranks out 470 horses and 975 lb-ft. One fun and quite burly figure regarding the Duramax is that it effectively double the standard gas engine’s max tow rating, which polishes its luster considerably! A larger 13.4-inch touchscreen is standard on the LT, LTZ, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2 models, with all of them also offering an integrated wireless smartphone charging pad. 

Gravel Guru: The Capable 2024 Chevy Traverse- Where Every Path is Your Playground!

Since the very first Chevy Traverse was launched in 2009, the 3-row crossover market has changed drastically. We’ve watched intently here at Mid-Missouri Powerhouse as this segment has wholeheartedly pulled ahead of the family-toting minivan category to become a replacement of sorts for the nearly Winnebago-esque family truckster! Crossovers have enjoyed a good deal of success with a form of very squared-off styling while going all-in to emulate body-on-frame characteristics. 

The big story for this year’s Traverse is the turbocharged 4-cylinder, which dusts its cleats off and steps eagerly up to the plate with more power and better fuel economy than the outgoing V6. If that’s all not quite exciting enough to make you seriously consider a test drive, there’s also the inclusion of the hands-free Super Cruise system. The amazing 2.5-liter 4-cylinder cranks out 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed transmission, with the choice of all-wheel or front-wheel drive. The EPA fuel rating is 23 mpg for the front-wheel drive trim.

That’s a notable improvement of 2 mpg city over the outgoing model, with the Autoweek staff claiming that the new 4-cylinder offers an exciting sense of power that is more than adequate. Anyone paying close attention to the way things behave directly off the line will agree that things feel quicker than the old model in all ways. Every Traverse will have driver tech such as rear automatic braking, blind-zone steering assist, and adaptive cruise control. 

One of the coolest new features that modern technology has offered busy commuters is stop sign recognition, which uses advanced forward-facing cameras to detect and then classify signs. The addition of Super Cruise has also beefed up its automatic lane changing feature, which offers excellent performance and a very smooth transition after the job is done back to hands-on driving. This year’s model offers the Z71 package for the first time, with the whole trail-ready assembly coming with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 265/65 R18 Goodyear Wranglers. 

There’s a set of very capable protective skid plates added to the mix, on duty to protect the many valuables underneath during frequent grass, brush, and incline assaults. There’s also a dedicated “Terrain” drive mode, which takes over brake-holding duty and allows you to fully control the throttle to help conquer hills. While the toughest and most jagged inclines of locations such as Moab may not be quite etched onto the itinerary, the Traverse’s new Z71 trim is perfect for the spur-of-the-moment flex on hillside gravel, or gleefully ripping through a previously occupied and half-treacherous quarry! 

The 2024 model is now 79.5 inches wide, which has grown almost an entire inch from 2023. This will ultimately mean that longer road trips will become more comfortable, as it has now created more room in the cabin. During expeditions that aspire to see much further than “the next town over”, the third row offers easy access thanks to the flipping second-row captain’s seats. There’s a 17.7-inch touchscreen greeting you during the first glance of the interior, which is paired nicely with a standard 11-inch digital driver display handling monitoring duty for the performance necessities.

This effort is an amazing example of putting an aggressively best foot forward in a very competitive segment. With the added new tech features, XXL display, and the addition of the adventurous Z71 trim to the mix, this year’s Traverse should sway any demographic rightfully towards the “mid-large” category!

Beyond the Plug: The 2025 Chevy Equinox Adds More Screen Space, Next-Level Drive Modes

 

The versatile and appealing Chevy Equinox was able to celebrate 2023 as quite a successful year here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse: it’s a 5-passenger vehicle with a heaping amount of charm, and the best-selling vehicle next to the Silverado pickup! The Equinox has not yet made the move to embrace a hybrid option, but the 2025 Equinox model is on track to hit lots with plug-in charm and efficiency. It is slated to use a completely different architecture boasting a sleeker look, sheet metal, and various new parts.

The Equinox’s exterior styling on deck for next year looks more rugged and truck-like, while still deriving power from the 175-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder. There will be two new transmissions specifically engineered to boost well-shifting bandwidth and off-the-line power. Front-wheel drive versions get a continuously variable transmission that sees a modest drop in peak torque from 203 lb-ft to 184. All these changes are engineered to guarantee the Equinox a better response time and fuel economy, along with new off-road and snow-drive modes. 

The Equinox can now tow 800 pounds in the front-wheel drive version, and 1,500 lbs with the AWD model. The overall stance is 2.3 inches wider, and the goods have been slightly lifted to share some cool traits with its relative in the form of the Traverse. For an extra dose of stealth attitude and more interior room, the roof line now goes straight back and gives the entire vehicle a boxier look. With the wheel wells still possessing a squared-off look, this adds a more curvaceous and accentuated visual flow. 

Active-spec Equinoxes will now be spruced up with a white two-tone roof, a Cacti exterior color, and standard 17-inch all-terrain tires. Screen space has been a huge selling point with many customers over the past two years, and manufacturers have risen to the occasion by jumping quickly at demands for enhancement. The Equinox now has an 11.0-inch driver display and an 11.3-inch touchscreen, representing a 4-inch gain from the outgoing model.

The Driver Confidence II Package now includes Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, as the 2023 models featured them as a standalone option. Value pricing has become crucial over the past 3 years, and the Equinox has cheerfully risen to the occasion of providing current-level greatness on a budget.

The 2024 Chevy Equinox is powered by a 175-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, along with front or all-wheel drive. As we closely examined user reviews right here in Missouri, one very satisfied owner claimed that she loved the “above average power, features that compare with the Rav4 and CRV, and sweet added touch of the power moon roof for lighting at night.”

The U.S. News auto review crew was excited with the Equinox’s high-performing ability to “tick all the boxes needed for a family-friendly vehicle with a small footprint.” Their test drive saw them discovering and enjoying the Equinox’s very spacious cabin, balanced ride and handling, and excellent fuel economy. The front row offers very comfortable seats and plenty of passenger room, and the Equinox is well worth checking out if you are after a family-friendly and spacious SUV with numerous driver assistance features.

The Premier trim offers luxe features such as a larger touch screen, very useful wireless charging, and posh leather upholstery. The LT trim still offers a robust list of features for great value, and it comes equipped with the same powertrain eagerly showing up for duty across the entire lineup. For just a slight bump up from the base trim, you’ll enjoy power-adjustable front driver’s seats, heated front seats, and a power liftgate, along with a 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster. Their extensive review and comparison had also found that the Ford Escape’s 3-cylinder engine was much noisier than the Equinox’s, and that its fuel economy helps it claim “budget-minded champion” status.

Stealth Spy Shots Capture Refreshed Chevy Tahoe Patrolling the Wild in High Country Trim

Both the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban have long been very sought-after here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! We are always eager to report on changes that customers can look for in incoming models, and the Motor1.com auto reporting team provided a few spy images on their website this past week of the Tahoe caught roaming the wild. The front and rear were covered in camouflage, but it appears to get a new dual-light configuration with separate headlights and daytime running lights. 

It's a bit tougher to see the changes on the grille, but the bold center strips of chrome seem to have disappeared. From the front view, enough details can be made out to see that it’s the High-Country edition, which provides a little luxury to rival competition such as the Escalade and Navigator. You’ll be spoiled with the 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, 22-inch wheels, unique grille with bronze accents, surround-view parking camera system, and head-up display. 

We have not heard any solid details about interior or powertrain changes for the incoming model. If the updated Tahoe sees its official debut by the 4th quarter of this year, it will likely be released as a 2024 model. Stepping things up even further to the High Country Deluxe provides extra features like the Max Trailering Package, panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, and power-retractable side steps. The Max Trailering Package should equip you for any tough haul with an enhanced cooling radiator, two-speed transfer case, trailer hitch camera, and integrated brake controller. 

This year’s model also provided the added benefit of Super Cruise on Premier and High Country trims, as well as adaptive cruise control now as standard on the High Country trim. Drivers love vehicles like this so much because they are great at hauling a large family around, easily towing toys to the lake, or fulfilling the role of an ultimate off-road vehicle. The magnetically controlled shock absorbers have been a game-changing addition for improving ride handling and capability as well. 

The major competition against the Tahoe is the Ford Expedition, the Toyota Sequoia, and Jeep Wagoneer. Regarding the transmission, another member of the review staff claimed that “there aren’t enough Os in smooth for this.” No shifts were rough or clunky in the least, with a few of the senior editors spending six hour shifts in the saddle and enjoying every minute. With all the seats folded, the cargo space is massive, and this has made the Tahoe a huge hit with growing families and businesses nationwide!

2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST Dominates Electric Landscape With Trigger-Happy 754 Horsepower

 When we first learned of the 2024 Silverado EVs coming here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse, we were all excited to see just how much had changed since the many aspirational blueprints and concepts were floating around years ago. At the first opportunity to collect information about this silent-but-lethal heavy hauler, the horsepower output was estimated at 664, with more than 780 lb-ft of torque. We’ve just learned that this figure has been boosted (as will many customers’ morale!) to the tune of 754 hp and 785 lb-ft.

If these numbers are ringing a job site-ready bell for you, it’s because they were just listed along with the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali edition one which debuted last week proudly boasting the same output. Engineering teams hard at work have now successfully honed the performance specs for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition to this lofty weight while Wide Open Watts mode is engaged. These figures are just existing now as estimates, and they may change again before the RST reaches dealers such as us here at the Powerhouse. 

The Sierra EV Denali Edition still has a bit of an extra weight tacked on to its anticipation factor and is not slated to arrive until early 2024. Both capable and contractor-ready trucks feature the same unibody design with the Ultium battery pack integrated directly into the structure, so transitioning between the two is a breeze. These ratings represent the absolute peak of power dutifully delivered while in certain drive modes and athletically sprints up to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. 

The Silverado EV WT delivers a still fully flexed 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, ready for any thoroughly demanding or much-needed recreational drive to the lake. The Silverado EV also now brings back the midgate, which aligns perfectly with our plan to have at least 40 percent of our models be EVs within the next three years. We have long known full well that the competition is waiting across the economically turbulent river in the form of the Ford F-150 lightning, the GMC Hummer EV, and the Rivian RIT. 

When we reflect on the aesthetics and overall feel of this incoming and massively powerful EV truck, we have lots of future-embracing and things to ponder. GM has been quite light-handed in doling out details, which is understandable as the market is now changing every day faster than ever. The EV’s chassis is built around the very solid battery pack’s structure, with the body and bed joining for a very smooth visual effect. The front end is a bit on the shorter side, which adds visibility from the driver’s seat and offers more legroom for those in the back.

Some EVs that we have become well-acquainted with here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse and are also offered nationwide have been built for pure function, and with the daily driver on a budget in mind. These are excellent options for anyone wanting to get from A to B via modern technology, but we have long known that competitors such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E have instilled a heightened sense of luxury and a sporty edge that a distinct group of savvy drivers is embracing. 

The Blazer EV offers a great sense of purpose and Earth-friendly function but may lack a distinct breed of excitement for a very independent and “thrill of the road” loving driver that the new battery-powered Blazer EV is on track to offer. 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss Model Defies Dirt + Double Lines with Larger Size, Improved Interior

Most truck enthusiasts here at Mid Mo Powerhouse have a specific list of characteristics they’re looking for in their next truck. While we waited for the official details on the 2023 Chevy Colorado, the staff on duty at Car and Driver did an excellent job of filling us in on all the features that truck lovers everywhere could look forward to. The newer model will grow slightly with a wider exterior design and have a greatly improved interior.

There’s a brand-new Trail Boss trim level for the 2023 Colorado, while the V6 and Duramax Diesel engines are replaced by the Silverado 1500’s turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four. This smaller-size yet potent package under the hood has a range of 230 to 310 horsepower, while delivering 430 lb-ft of torque. The official word right now is that the third generation Colorado will see a production start date in the first half of next year right here in the Show-Me State at GM’s Wentzville, MO assembly plant, where the GMC Canyon and current Colorado are built. 

The Car and Driver staff start things off by saying that the new 2023 Colorado succeeds greatly at having all the best ingredients and that its turbocharged 4-cylinder engine cranks out as much horsepower as the V6 in the competing Nissan’s brand-new Frontier. Since the previous model had become so popular, it made sense to offer the new one exclusively as the 4-door crew cab with the shorter 5’ 2” box. From the entry-level work truck trim up to the boulder-conquering ZR2 off-roader, this midsize marvel has been stellar at giving people what most people want and much more than they actually need. 

The new Colorado has 2.3 inches of width on the previous model, and each trim sports a 3.1-inch-longer wheelbase, with a shorter front overhang that is a great help with the off-road friendly 38.3-degree approach angle. All of us here at the powerhouse know that the Tacoma TRD Pro is very stiff in terms of competition, and it offers up just 35.0 degrees of approach as far as this constant duel is concerned. Many customers that are buying trucks with working hard in mind and playing even harder have towing capacity on their minds as a “must”, and the Trail Boss trim model is the segment leader with its 7700-pound rating. 

We assume that the all-important fuel economy rating will still weigh in at right around 19 city and 25 mpg, and this turbocharged 2.7-liter engine is equipped with stop-start technology and active cylinder management that senses when the time is right to save fuel, then limits combustion to only two cylinders. We have always appreciated and admired the Chevy Silverado 1500 here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse, as it’s our signature breed of work truck, and a perfect vehicle to take on adventuresome weekend expeditions. For those that are always on the watch for awards and accolades, the Silverado is already having another successful year!

The Chevy Silverado 1500 has recently secured another bragging right: J.D. Power ranked it as the “Best Large Light-Duty Pickup”. The J.D. Power IQS is now enjoying its 36th year, giving the final word on major car brands and individual vehicle models with a final ranking based on responses from brand new vehicle owners. This 2022 study is based on return survey responses from over 84,000 individuals, all surveyed very early on after they purchased a new vehicle. 

These savvy consumers who provided their input were asked to answer 223 questions that ranked the vehicle’s quality based on nine important traits. Among these were powertrain capability, climate, accessibility of controls and displays, exterior, driving assistance features, infotainment, interior, seat comfort,  other features, and overall driving experience. Once these answers are calculated, J.D. Power provides a finished ranking using a metric that dictates “Problems Per 100 Vehicles”: the lower this score, the higher the vehicle ranks in overall quality.

Individual models were also grouped into very specific segments, with our prized light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500 taking the very top honors in the Large Light Duty Pickup category. The runner-up models in the segment include the light-duty GMC Sierra 1500, as well as the rival in the form of the Ford F150. The Bow Tie brand enjoyed the success of securing six segment wins total, including the Chevy Corvette as the premium Sporty Car win, The Chevy Equinox for the compact SUV, The Chevy Malibu as the midsize car, and The Chevy Silverado HD and Chevy Tahoe for the larger sized heavy-duty pickup and SUV segments. 

GM’s full-size truck category had also outsold the Ford F-series and Ram pickup during the second quarter of this year, continuing along with the GMC Sierra to be the best-selling manufacturer of full-size pickups in the nation. Adding to these high-performing and sought-after lineups, Chevy recently officially teased the upcoming 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison made with the assistance of world-class field and stream (as well as Army-Grade engineering!) AEV Outfitters. After this, GM will refresh both the Sierra HD and Silverado HD, and for the 2024 model year, they will both gain updated exterior styling, overhauled cabins, along with more horsepower and torque for the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel.

2022 Chevy Suburban Surpasses The 200,000 Mile Mark in Star-Studded Style: GM Authority Reports

The Suburban is currently enjoying its second model year of the latest twelfth-generation nameplate, also offering up 8,300 lbs of towing capacity when equipped with the 6.2-Liter V8 L87 gas engine and 4-wheel drive.
