A New Engine May Be In The Corvette's Future

Calling all Jefferson City Corvette enthusiasts! Although the current Corvette features the original Corvette formula, many changes are in store for the beloved sports car’s future.

According to recently leaked General Motors service documents, a new engine will be added to the 2018 Corvette. The codenamed LT5 engine is similar to the 6.2-liter V8 used in the current Corvette, however, the brand plans to drop the pushrod valve actuation, which has been in place since the ‘Vette’s birth over 60 years ago and switch to a dual-overhead camshaft, or DOHC layout.

General Motors has managed to do many impressive things with the current V8 engine used in the Corvette but the DOHC will allow the engines to rev more freely and give engineers a wider powerband to work with when trying to extract horsepower from an engine. This LT5 will likely provide a greater eagerness to rev and produce less low-end grunt than other Corvette engines.

This LT5 engine is expected to make its appearance in 2018, which is also around the same time the mid-engined Corvette will make its debut. We’ll keep you posted over the next 12 months. In the meantime, stop in and see us at Mid-Missouri Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO!

Get Winter-Weather Ready With These 6 Tips For Driving In The Snow

Winter is swiftly approaching, and we all know that with the cold weather often comes that dreaded four-letter word… snow. Sure, snow is great when you’re cozied up in your home and don’t have anywhere to go, but unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world. Driving in snow can be dangerous and our team at Mid-Missouri Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO wants you to get to your destination and back home safely. Check out these tips below for driving in the winter:

Clear snow and ice off of your car before driving

This is an essential first step to take before you hit the road. Snow on your windshield can block your view and create unnecessary blind spots. Snow left on the roof of your car could slide down to the windshield while driving, completely blocking your view. It could also fly off, causing trouble for the drivers behind you.

Reduce speed

Tires easily lose grip of the road in icy and snowy conditions. Slowing down will give you more control and the ability to react if slippage occurs. Reducing speed will also lessen the impact if things should go wrong.

Accelerating, braking and turning should all be separate actions

Trying to brake while turning or accelerate while turning is the recipe for disaster in snowy conditions. Be sure to slowly apply the brakes while the vehicle is still going straight and gently accelerate when making the turn. Keyword: Gently.

Longer braking distance

Keep your distance from the vehicle ahead of you, and be sure to apply your brakes earlier than you would in dry conditions. Additionally, use much less pressure on the brakes than you normally would. Locking your wheels causes the vehicle to slide or skid.

Steer into a skid

Should the rear of the vehicle begin sliding during a turn, DON’T PANIC! Let your foot off of the accelerator and steer your vehicle in the direction of the slide. This will keep you in control.

Just because the road looks clear, doesn’t mean it is safe

Black ice is a layer of ice on the road that is typically mistaken for wet pavement and is often found on bridges, overpasses and shaded parts of the road. According to one study, trying to stop on black ice takes nine times longer than normal, leaving no room for error if you happen to come accross it. Keep in mind that if the road is wet and temperatures are below 32 degrees, freezing will occur. Just because a road looks clear of snow does not mean that it is clear of danger.

Chevy's First-Ever Nine-Speed Automatic Transmission

Chevy has recently announced that their first-ever nine-speed automatic transmission has made its official debut in the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder 2017 Malibu and brought a few good things along with it, like an EPA estimated 33 mpg highway and even better performance.

“In addition to improved fuel efficiency, the 9T50 offers a strong overall balance of performance and refinement that customers will feel at all driving speeds,” stated Dan Nicholson, vice president of Global Propulsion Systems. “By the end of 2017, Chevrolet will offer four models with the new nine-speed.”

According to Chevy, the Hydra-Matic 9T50 nine-speed will also be available in the 2017 Cruze Diesel and 2018 Equinox. It will support stop/start technology on all models, which contributes to even more fuel conservation.

“Everything about the new nine-speed is designed to maximize benefits for the customer,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet Marketing. “It helps offer greater fuel efficiency in the city and on the highway, all with the world-class refinement that makes the drive quiet and smooth.”

The brand has sold about 205,117 Malibus in the United States this year, putting it on the path to have a record sales year with this vehicle. To check it out for yourself, be sure to visit us at Mid Missouri Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO!

New Spy Shots Give Us The Best Look Yet At Chevy's 2018 Corvette ZR1

The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 is headed our way soon and these new spy photos have peaked our anticipation. The now barely-covered road car is without a doubt going to be the brand’s best yet.

So far, every test vehicle we’ve gotten a look at has featured heavy camouflage, so we were unable to grasp the true silhouette of the ZR-1… until now. The new photos show a bulging hood and revamped front end, complete with three large intakes and a massive splitter. The rear is equipped with a huge wing and spoiler.

Considering the larger hood, it is likely that the supercharger of the ZR-1 will be larger than the 1.7-liter version of the current Z06. It is also likely that this bad boy will bust out more than 700 horsepower, but we’ll have to hold off until the Detroit Auto Show in January to find out for sure.

‘Vette fanatic or not, we know you’re just as excited as we are. In the meantime, be sure to stop by and see us at Mid Missouri Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO! We would love to help you find your new car!

Chevy Took Home A Record 18 Awards Last Week

According to the latest Chevrolet news, they’ve had a pretty good week. Led by the all-new Bolt EV, which won five awards on its own, the brand scored an overall total of 18 awards in automotive and consumer media rankings this past week- a record for Chevy.

The Bolt EV, offering 238 miles of range on a full charge earned a spot on the 2017 Car and Driver 10Best Cars list, in addition to being named “Best New Car to Buy” by Green Car Reports, “Green Car of the Year” by Green Car Journal and “Best EV” by Car Connection.

“The Bolt EV is the newest example of how Chevrolet is driving the industry with leading technology matched with great design and the connectivity that makes customers’ lives easier,” stated Alan Batey, president of GM North America and brand chief, Global Chevrolet. “We’re innovating like never before with more choices for every need and these awards affirm the depth, breadth and value offered by Chevrolet’s lineup.”

To add to the awards, the Camaro 1LE was positioned on the Car and Driver 10Best Cars list for the second year in a row. The Corvette also made this list for the third time in four years.

Finally (we’re running out of breath), Consumer Guide Automotive awarded six Chevy vehicles with “Best Buy” honors and the Impala and Tahoe each received back-to-back Kelley Blue Book Best Buy award recognition in their respective categories.

Needless to say, we’re pretty proud of Chevrolet’s success, especially over this past week! Be sure to stop by Mid-MO Powerhouse to check out and test drive any of these award-winning vehicles for yourself!

The Colorado ZR2 Is Headed This Way And Ready To Hit The Trails

Off-roaders of Jefferson City… The Colorado ZR2 is coming soon and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel! This desert-ready performance truck will without-a-doubt reset the bar for off-road trucks, featuring more off-roading technology than any other midsize pickup in its segment.

Offering a much wider track and lifted suspension than the standard Colorado, the ZR2 is built for better performance over rocks and other obstacles. The front and rear bumpers have been revamped for better off-road clearance. Other features, which are exclusive to this truck, include front and rear electronic locking differentials, an available diesel engine and the Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve (DSSV) damper technology.

“Our engineers have been incredibly successful developing Corvette and Camaro performance variants with broad performance envelopes,” stated Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “The ZR2 applies that same philosophy to off-road performance. You can go rock crawling Saturday, desert running on Sunday, and comfortably drive to work on Monday. This truck can do it all, and do it all well.”

Dying to take this bad boy out on the trails? We are too. It’s headed into Mid-MO Powerhouse very soon, so be on the lookout!

The All-New 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is expected to make it’s public debut at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. With tons of changes coming along with it, this highly-anticipated SUV is expected to hit the market in the beginning of 2017. The new design, added safety features and all-new propulsion systems will all work together to do the one thing a vehicle should do- meet every need of drivers and their passengers.

“The all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is a modern SUV sized and designed to meet the needs of the compact SUV customer,” stated Alan Batey, president of GM North America and brand chief, Global Chevrolet. “We’ve got the strongest truck business in the industry and we’ve reinvigorated our car lineup with Volt, Cruze and Malibu. Now we are focusing on growing our crossover/SUV business, starting with the Chevrolet Equinox.”

The exterior of the 2018 Equinox has been totally revamped. Sleek, muscular lines and subtle details give the vehicle an overall richer image. Chrome trim has been added, in addition to projector-beam headlights and defining taillamps.

Inside, you will find the down-and-away instrument panel and lower windshield base- which offers impressive outward views. It also features Chevy’s latest technologies, like the MyLink infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Active safety features have been added, as well, such as the New Safety Alert Seat, New Rear Seat Reminder, New Surround Vision and Teen Driver technology.

Lastly, a range of three turbocharged engine options have been added so that buyers can have more say when it comes to performance, efficiency and capability of their Equinox. These include a 1.5L turbo, a 2.0L turbo and a 1.6L diesel.

We’re excited for this one… so we’ll keep you posted on its arrival to Mid-MO Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO!

Here's What You Missed At The 2016 SEMA Show

The 2016 SEMA Show took place last week and Chevy took it upon themselves to not only show off their impressive concepts, but to also celebrate the Camaro’s 50th anniversary. Since you most likely didn’t make it out to Vegas to check out the show for yourself (but if you did- props to you!) we put together a list of a few of the vehicles you missed out on.

2017 Camaro SS Slammer

As a lowered, road-hugging one-off, this Camaro was designed to take the Gen 6 Camaro’s proportions to the extreme. It was introduced at the show by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Chevy showed it on its stand all week .

Chevelle Slammer

With the same lowered look as the Camaro SS, the Chevelle Slammer was designed to mock the original. “The ‘69 Chevelle is one of the best-looking cars of the muscle-car era, and we didn’t want to mess with its classic cues,” stated designer Humberto Ortiz.

Silverado HD Alaskan Edition concept

This awesome concept was a hit at the Chevy preview. The Alaskan Edition 2500HD features a huge stainless-steel custom snow plow, which showed off the company’s snow-plow prep package. The concept builds on the existing Alaskan Edition offered on the 2017 Silverado HD Work Truck and LT but has a few additions- like the silver-accented blue exterior, grizzly bear graphics and chrome bumper grilles.

Trax Activ concept

The Trax Activ concept is a lifted, widened and accessorized version of the production Trax. It features 18-inch wheels, front and rear clips and is all about adventure.

As you can tell, the 2016 SEMA Show turned out to be a success for Chevy… and we’re sure you want to get your hands on some of these concepts just as much as we do. Since we (unfortunately) can’t, we hope you’ll visit us at Mid Missouri Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO to check out our current Chevrolet lineup!

Chevy's 2017 Silverado HD Carhartt Concept Is Pretty Awesome

Chevrolet has recently announced they will be teaming up with Carhartt Inc. to create the (pretty awesome) 2017 Silverado HD Carhartt concept, a truck detailed with touches of Carhartt. The truck will be on display at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas next week.

According to GM and Chevy, Silverado and Carhartt have a mutual passion for two things: durability and long-lasting products.

“When you think about the two brands and what they represent, but also the customers that purchase them, there’s a lot of passion for the Carhartt brand and the Silverado brand,” stated High Milne, senior manager of Silverado marketing and advertising. “We’re talking to the same people, people who buy Carhartt stuff or drive our trucks.”

This two-toned black truck features matte paint along the top and a shiny paint job on the bottom half. Carhartt design elements, are placed throughout the exterior in the “Carhartt Brown” accent paint; this includes the brand’s “C” logo and Silverado written in Carhartt style font on the driver’s door. Additionally, nickel finishes inspired by Carhartt’s buttons are used on the wheels and around the blacked-out Chevy bowtie on the grille.

Inside, you will find Carhartt’s name featured on the floor mats and the Carhartt logo on the headrests. Part of the seats, armrests and door panel inserts use Carhartt’s duck-brown cloth material. Even the truck bed features a roll-up tonneau cover made from Carhartt material.

Though there are no plans to sell the truck, Tony Ambroza, senior vice president of marketing for Carhartt says that they are interested if that changes.

“If Chevy decides to pursue that opportunity, we’re very interested in working with them on that,” said Ambroza. “The idea was if people respond to it as well as we hope they will, that we’ll have conversations on how we can continue to partner together to bring the ultimate work truck to life.”

We’re hoping people respond to it as well as we have because we’d like to get this bad boy in our showroom!

Be sure to stop by and see us at Mid-MO Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO to check out the current 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500!

Is The Colorado Bison In Chevy's Future?

According to GM Authority, General Motors has recently filed a trademark application for the name “Colorado Bison”. The paperwork states that the purpose of this name is for “motor and land vehicles, namely trucks.” Though no details came along with this information, we think it opens the door for a few possibilities.

We don’t want to jump to conclusions, but the name could be pointing to an upcoming trim level for the Colorado, likely a fancier version. According to statistics, demand is very high for small trucks in this day and age, so packing profit into each one it sells is a logical step to take.

Even more interesting is the fact that in the 1970s, Chevrolet built a brawny Class 8 heavy duty commercial truck with the very same (and fitting) moniker, so a revival model wouldn’t be a bad idea. The current diesel-powered Colorado has the highest tow rating in the small pickup segment, so an even stronger version of the little brute isn’t totally unthinkable.

We’ll just have to wait and see on this one but luckily, we have the superior trail-ready Colorado ZR2 headed our way soon enough! We’ll keep you posted on its arrival to Mid-MO Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO!

A Diesel Option Will Be Available On Next Year's Chevy Cruze

Chevrolet recently announced that the new Cruze will be offered with a diesel option paired with a manual transmission sometime next year. The previous Cruze diesel was only available with an automatic transmission, so this is marks a big change for the vehicle. Additionally, a six-speed manual transmission will be available on the hatchback version of the Cruze. Both versions are available with a new nine-speed automatic.

GM has confirmed that the Cruze will be receiving the same engine found in the 2018 Equinox- the 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. The output of this Equinox is 136 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, however it has not yet been announced what the exact output of the Cruze’s version will be. It has been reported that it could hit up to 50 miles per gallon on the highway.

After the release of this information, it is obvious GM is taking big steps towards the diesel market, which has many advantages, so we’re excited to see what happens next. And since we have awhile until the manual transmission Cruze diesel comes out, we hope you will come check out the 2016 Colorado diesel at Mid-MO Powerhouse in Jefferson City, MO!

The Redesigned Duramax Engine

Chevrolet has recently announced that the 2017 Silverado HD will now offer the Duramax 6.6L V-8 turbo-diesel engine. This redesigned engine brings 445 horsepower and 910 lb.-ft of torque- a 19 percent increase in max torque over the current Duramax 6.6L- and the best the Duramax has ever offered.

In addition to the power updates, the turbo-diesel’s performance is even quieter and smoother than before. The engine noise at idle has been reduced 38 percent.

“With nearly 2 million sold over the past 15 years, customers have forged a bond with Duramax diesel based on trust and capability,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president, Global Propulsion Systems. “The new Duramax takes those traits to higher levels.”

Sharing only the bore and stroke dimension of the current Duramax 6.6L, the new Duramax will be using a new control system developed by GM; however, the engine’s signature low-rpm torque production has not changed, offering 90 percent of peak torque at 1,550 rpm and sustaining through 2,850 rpm.

“Nearly everything about the Duramax is new, designed to produce more torque at lower rpm and more confidence when trailering or hauling,” stated Gary Arvan, chief engineer. “You’ll also notice the refinement improvements the moment you start the engine, and appreciate them as you cruise quietly down the highway - with or without a trailer.”

The 2017 Silverado HD will be rolling in to our lot at Mid-MO Powerhouse shortly, so we encourage you to come check it out!

Chevrolet Making Moves To Make Towing Safer

As stated in a recent Chevy press release, about 1.2 million horse, RV and work trailers are sold each year in the United States. And though it’s an obvious fact, these trailers are usually pulled by either full-size trucks or SUVs. As an award-winning industry leader in trailering, Chevrolet has decided to help trailer manufacturers and the industry leaders to gain a better understanding of the direction truck and trailering is going.

The brand has recently announced they will be partnering with the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) and the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) in order to produce an integrated and even more convenient trailering experience for trailer owners around the US.

“This partnership with Chevrolet is part of the trailer industry’s continued commitment to improving safety,” Pam Trusdale, executive director, NATM stated. “We are confident that we can collectively improve not only the towing experience for consumers but also public safety, which is why NATM is excited about working with Chevrolet.”

Chevy will be helping trailer manufactures in the development of technologies that will completely enhance the combined trailer and truck safety and industry safety standards. In addition to this, the partners will work together to increase the communication between the truck and trailer, assuring the driver is always aware of what’s going on behind them.

“Our owners are often towing something, from an RV to construction equipment, that is more valuable than their truck,” stated General Motors future truck executive chief engineer, Tim Herrick. “Unequivocally, they tell us that they are looking for a better towing experience. Safer, easier, with more integration between their trailer and their truck.”

Look out for more built-in advanced towing options on future Chevrolet models at Mid-MO Powerhouse in Jefferson City!

More Updates On The Highly Anticipated Mid-Engine Corvette

A couple of months ago, we posted about the possibility of a mid-engine Corvette becoming a reality...and according to a new string of spy photos, this is no joke. Though the snapshots are not top quality, they show us more than we knew before, so we’re not complaining.

In the new photos, we can see a (very camouflaged) prototype C8 in its actual body this time around, giving us a pretty good idea of the car’s profile- and confirming that the engine is most certainly located in the back. What we can’t see yet are the major details, which is to be expected, as the new ‘Vette still seems to be a developmental mule.

Word on the street is that a small-block V-8 engine will bring the power, pumping out between 450 to 500 horsepower when paired with a new, Tremec-sourced seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. But we still have lots of questions…Price? Performance? Name?

The mid-engined Corvette is expected to make its debut at the Detroit auto show in January 2018, so we have quite the wait but we’re looking forward to all the details!

In the meantime, be sure to stop in Mid-MO Powerhouse in Linn, MO to check out our current inventory of the C7 Corvette!

If You're A Chevy Truck Enthusiast, The New Truck Legends Program Is For You

Are you a dedicated Jefferson City Chevy Truck enthusiast? If so, you’ll love this! This past Wednesday, Chevrolet launched a program called “Truck Legends”, which recognizes and honors Chevy truck owners who have more than 100,000 miles on their trucks or have purchased/leased more than one new Chevy Truck in their lifetime. The program is currently open to only Texas residents, however, the brand plans to roll out nationwide in 2017.

“We know there is a story behind every mile, every truck and every customer,” Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet truck marketing director stated. “The Truck Legends program is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our loyal customers and curating some of their stories.” He went on, “In 2018 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of our first Chevrolet truck, and that event would not be complete without recognizing the customers who have made Chevrolet part of the fabric of America. The stories from our Truck Legends will play a key part in celebrating the next hundred years of Chevrolet trucks.”

As a Truck Legends member, you will receive Truck Legends memorabilia, such as hats and decals. Dealerships that participate in the program may offer benefits, such as free carwashes, discounts on oil changes or Chevrolet truck accessories at a discounted price. Trucks eligible for the Truck Legends program include:
  • Silverado and Silverado HD (and past C/K trucks)
  • Colorado (and past S-10 trucks)
  • Tahoe
  • Suburban
  • Avalanche
As mentioned, the program is currently open to only Texas residents, however, will be launched nationwide in 2017. At that point, owners will be able to sign up at ChevyTruckLegends.com!

The Chevy Colorado Has A Role In A New Military Spec Vehicle

Earlier this week, General Motors and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) made an announcement about an up-and-coming military spec vehicle that will be based on the Chevrolet Colorado and powered by hydrogen fuel cells- a fuel cell (often compared to a battery) that uses both hydrogen and oxygen as fuel to produce electricity and water. The electricity produced will be used to power the vehicle and the water will either be ejected or captured.

Though there is a push for electric vehicles throughout the entire automotive industry, the military segment is especially significant. A fuel-cell vehicle makes very little noise and the electric motors will reach their maximum torque almost instantly. This allows it to maneuver through rough terrain quietly. As far as charging goes, the fuel-cell vehicle does not require a station- just a supply of hydrogen. It even has the ability to be used as an electric generator and source of water.

The fuel-cell vehicle will be revealed this October at the Association of the United States Army fall meeting, located in Washington, D.C. Though the military has not stated whether or not they will use this type of vehicle in active duty, GM did state that a commercially viable fuel-cell vehicle is in the works for the 2020 time frame.

Only time will tell with this one. Who knows, maybe this technology will end up on future Chevy models!

Chevrolet's New Technology Parents Won't Want To Miss Out On

The world’s largest single-day auto event took place this past weekend- yep, the one that draws in 40,000 classic cars and 1.5 million people, and is otherwise known as the Woodward Dream Cruise. The turnout was better than ever. This year was especially exciting for Chevrolet, who could think of no better place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its precious Camaro than the annual Cruise.

Chevy kicked off the weekend early on Thursday and opened up the Lansing Grand River Assembly- known to many as the home of production for the Chevrolet Camaro- so that Camaro fanatics could get a peek at what goes on inside. The following morning, Camaro owners were invited to the “Camaros and Coffee” gathering before parading from the Renaissance Center (GM’s headquarters) and down Woodward Avenue. About 200 Camaros made their way out for the parade. Finally, on Saturday, Chevrolet had a special heritage collection at its display, where Camaro fanatics were able to view rare and milestone models from the muscle car’s six generations (which also included the all-new Camaro ZL1 and 1LE).

“Dream Cruise is such a big momentous event, which is right in the wheelhouse of what these people like to do,” Todd Christensen, Chevrolet marketing manager, told Detroit News. “It just felt right.”

We don’t know about you...but we agree with Mr. Christensen. Chevrolet definitely did it right this weekend at the 22nd Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Oh, and good news: The 2017 Camaro ZL1 and 1LE are now available for order...we’ll let you know more about their arrival.

For the the fifth consecutive year, the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad will be on deck in six 2016 Chevrolet Silverado trucks to assist the cruisers who may have any issues with their classics.

Throughout the last five years of Chevrolet’s participation, the volunteer technicians have serviced about 200 vehicles of all makes and models. This year, about 40,000 classic cars are expected to participate in the event.

Scott Williams, Chevrolet Certified Service Marketing Marketing Manager stated, “Classic car lovers take great care of their vehicles, but unforeseen issues can crop up, especially given the long hours of the Dream Cruise. The professional technicians from the Chevrolet Certified Rescue Squad look forward to keeping this year’s classics on the road, cruising."

Chevy's Best Corvette Yet: The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport

Entering the seventh-generation of Corvette, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport is Chevrolet’s best yet. As most Jefferson City ‘Vette fanatics are aware, the Grand Sport name has been around for 53 years... but has only been given to three vehicles- the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, 1996 C4 Corvette Grand Sport and the 2010 C6 model. So, though it goes without saying, this car is a big deal.

Powered by the LT1 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport produces 460 horsepower when combined with its tremendously loud exhaust. Options include the seven-speed manual transmission versus its eight-speed automatic transmission and of course, it is available in both coupe and convertible body styles. In addition, it flourishes all of the typical GS characteristics- Grand Sport Cup wheels, the blacked-out wide-mouth front grille, lowered hood and wide rear.

Jonathan Gitlin, the automotive editor at Ars Technica, spent a day with this beauty at the Atlanta Motorsports Park. “Should you buy one?”, he states. “The answer we think is a resounding yes, if you’re in the market for a capable sports car that can do double duty touring the country or or pounding out laps at the track. It’s cheaper than the European rivals like the 911 Carrera S or Ferrari California T but no less capable, and in our opinion is the best Corvette model yet.”

Already known for its exceptional control and predictable handling, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport is something we’re all dying to get our hands on at Mid-Missouri Powerhouse.

An Off-Roader's Dream: The 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

If you’re a big fan of off-roading, you’re going to love the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. The new Colorado has been on sale for a few years now and has done really well as far as performance and sales go- even winning Motor Trend Truck of the Year. However, in comparison to its rival, the Toyota Tacoma, some may say the Colorado doesn’t have the off-roading capabilities to take the cake. After a recent string of spy-photos, it seems like Chevrolet has taken this into consideration.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2014, Chevrolet revealed a concept called the Colorado ZR2 which was definitely built for the dirt. Although they insisted this was only a concept, the leak of these photos has us thinking otherwise.

Even through the heavy camouflage on the front, we can see lots of off-road upgrades that will prevent the occurrence of any scraping. A rugged new front bumper has been added, in addition to robust skid plates underneath. The wheel arches are much more aggressive and the overhangs have been reduced.

Wondering where the power will come from? We’re thinking the ZR2 will be paired with the 3.6-liter V-6 gas or the 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine. We’ll have to wait and see.

Anticipated to make its appearance later this year, the 2017 Colorado ZR2 will be every off-roader’s dream. It’s perfect for exploring the off-road trails of Jefferson City or finding the perfect spot to fish along the Missouri River.

We’ll keep you posted!

Is a Mid-Engine Corvette Becoming A Reality?

Mid-Missouri ‘Vette fanatics- a string of spy photos are making their way around and we have a feeling you’re going to be as excited as we are. It’s looking as if the next Corvette isn’t going to be your typical C7 Stingray, but rather a mid-engine model.

The mule was caught test-driving at GM’s Milford Proving Grounds in full camouflage (even sporting C7 body panels). However, a couple of things stood out- like the missing glass cover on the vehicle’s rear hatch. This kind of setup would ensure the engine, located behind the seats, is receiving enough air to keep it cool.

This mid-engine Corvette has been in the works for awhile- and just last year GM engineers and executives were seen testing a prototype that combined the C7 and Holden Commodore SSV. We’re getting closer and closer!
We’ll be sure to keep you updated...but in the meantime, don’t hesitate to visit us at the Mid-MO Powerhouse to check out the New 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe!

Happy Birthday, Chevy Camaro... 50 Looks Great On You

The Camaro, first debuting in September of 1966 as a rival to Ford’s Mustang, is celebrating its 50th birthday this year! Though it took a break towards the beginning of the 21st century, the Camaro has been going strong, now in its sixth generation, and Chevrolet plans to celebrate accordingly.

This August, multiple public events are planned for the Camaro during the Woodward Dream Cruise, a huge classic car event taking place annually in Metropolitan Detroit. From tours of the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant, where the Camaro is built, to a “Camaros and Coffee” event at the Joe Louis Arena Riverfront parking lot, every true Camaro fanatic will be in attendance. The official day of the Dream Cruise, Chevy will have a special heritage collection of the Camaro on display, where the new 2017 ZL1 and 1LE models will be available to view, as well.

Speaking of the 2017 model, this supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with an estimated 640-hp and 10-speed automatic transmission will be headed our way this fall...and we’re excited.

In addition to this, Chevrolet is taking the celebration even further with a 2017 Special Edition Camaro. This will be available on coupes and convertibles with the 2SS or 2LT trims. Each vehicle will come in Nightfall Gray Metallic and advertise the 50th Anniversary logo throughout.

For more information about the anniversary and if you’re interested in attending any of the events, visit
www.camarofifty.com.

In the meantime, be sure to come visit us at Mid-MO Powerhouse in St. Louis, MO to check out the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and give it a test drive!

Chevrolet Takes Home Most J.D. Power IQS Awards Four Years In A Row

The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study has awarded Chevrolet more than any other brand for the fourth year in a row. This study, conducted annually, takes the responses of 80,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2016 model-year vehicles following the first 90 days of their ownership and applies this information to any improvements the vehicle may need.

The 2016 awarded vehicles include:
  • The Tahoe, which scored 19 points above the segment average and led in the large SUV segment
  • The Equinox scored 15 points above the segment average and led (in a tie) in the compact SUV segment
  • The Silverado 1500 and the Silverado HD both dominated the full-size truck categories
  • The Spark led the city car segment and scored a total of 48 points above the segment average
“First, the study results will help attract new buyers to a Chevrolet, as J.D. Power data shows ‘expected reliability’ is a customers’ top purchase consideration,” states Alan Batey, Global Chevrolet president. “Second, the improved ownership experience of our new vehicles will help convert first-time Chevrolet buyers into repeat customers, as J.D. Power indicates customers who have a positive experience in the first 90 days of ownership are more likely to become repeat buyers for the brand.”

As indicated in this year’s study, Chevrolet is the fastest growing full-line brand in the automobile industry. The company has seen a 3% grow in retail sales in the first five months of 2016 due to their focus on the customer.

Want to check out these award-winning vehicles for yourself? Stop in the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse located in Linn, MO today!

The 2016 Camaro Driver Mode Selector

© General Motors

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out in every way, especially with the new technologies that enable drivers to tailor the car to the moment it is being driven. Whether lapping a road course or taking the curvy back roads of Mid-Missouri- the Camaro’s suspension adapts to fit every situation imaginable with its Driver Mode Selector.

The modes to choose from include:
  • Sport
  • Tour
  • Track (Available in SS only)
  • Snow/Ice
Each mode makes different adjustments- such as the level of traction, shift feel, ride stiffness, steering and throttle response, and even the lighting within the cockpit of the car. With eight different characteristics to choose from, every mode is a unique driving experience.

The SS comes equipped with magnetic ride control- the world’s fasted driving suspension- which reads the road every millisecond to help the tires stay on the road, similar to the way metal sticks to a magnet.

2017 Equinox Spied Testing

Though heavily camouflaged, spy photographers have caught the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox test-driving in Southern Europe. The vehicle seen in the photos is the Opel Antara, however, this will become the new Chevy Equinox when it makes its way to the US.

It’s difficult to see a lot of the details, due to the fact that automakers work hard to keep new vehicles a secret but the 2017 Equinox is expected to offer better mileage than the current generation. Additionally, it appears that the vehicle will remain a five-seater but since no major changes have been done to the crossover since 2010, many are expecting the third generation to look even better and include advanced technology.

There’s no word on when the vehicle will arrive but many are expecting late 2016 or early 2017.

Stay tuned on our blog or follow us on social media for more updates!

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback has Tons of Room AND a Reasonable Price

Chevrolet has finally announced the pricing of one of its newest vehicles—the 2017 Cruze Hatchback. The all-new vehicle will start out at a reasonable $22,190 and is expected to arrive at dealerships, including MidMo Powerhouse, this fall.

What we know: the new hatchback has added 3.7 cubic feet of cargo space to that of the traditional Cruze, and has a whopping 42 cubic feet of storage when the seats are folded down! The LT model features a 1.4-liter turbo, four-cylinder engine with 153 horsepower and is available with a six-speed or manual transmission. The staffers here at the dealership think that a diesel powered 5-door Cruze hatchback would be a great vehicle for out in the rural areas. We can’t wait for Chevy to announce this vehicle’s standard and optional equipment!

Car buyers in the Midwest have been showing increased interest in hatchbacks due to the extra utility that the 5th door adds. Jim Butler Linn Chevrolet invites you to try the Cruze Hatchback when it arrives this fall!

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD Features an All-New Air-Intake System Fit for the Worst Conditions

MidMo Powerhouse is excited to announce that the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD will feature an all-new patented air intake system that is designed both to cool down the engine during intense driving conditions, and to increase engine performance. In fact, the new system will provide 60 percent of the air used to cool the Duramax diesel engine.
The revolutionary air intake system is housed within a hood that is significantly larger than the hoods of HD’s past. This system feeds air to the engine that is roughly the same temperature as the air outside, allowing for increased vehicle performance as well as power and speed maintenance during even the worst driving conditions.

Eric Stanczak, chief engineer of the Silverado HD explains that “the 2017 Silverado HD was engineered to provide maximum utility for our customers.” This HD’s engine can breath even when blocked—the air filter housing pumps 40 percent more air to a location within the truck’s fender, which then goes on to fill the engine’s combustion chambers.

In order for the engine to run at its peak performance level, the air must not only be cool, but dry as well. Chevrolet has perfected the new air intake system even further by adding an air/water separator, which takes in air at such a high velocity that it is separated from any humidity or water. It then drains the water through a valve.

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD is expected to hit dealers later this year. Head to Jim Butler Linn Chevrolet, your Mid MO Chevy Powerhouse!

The Newly Refined Chevrolet Silverado High Desert

Chevrolet has recently unveiled the multi use and consumer friendly Silverado High Desert package, which will arrive in dealerships this fall. The new addition to Silverado's lineup of special edition vehicles will offer the customer an option of three different trims, each with their own high end capability and unique features.

Included in the High Desert package are the LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. Engineered with an updated exterior style, a lockable and 100% water proof cargo department, and a revolutionary Magnetic Ride Control suspension system exclusively for High Country models.

Each trim of the High Desert package is equipped with Chevy's all-new flexible and lockable storage system that gives you the option to lock and protect your cargo, even when faced with the most brutal of elements. The system is installed over the high-strength steel bed which adds the three piece hard cover and storage bins to create the secured cargo area. A cargo divider could be lowered to access the the entirety of the bed's floor or could be raised to secure any smaller items you may have.

The LT trim level rides on all-season 20 inch wheels; while the High Desert LTZ and High Country models are given all-terrain 22 inch wheels. Also available for the LTZ and High Country models is Silverado's EcoTec3 6.2L, V-8 engine backed by the new Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. The SAE-certified, 420 horsepower engine and its 460 lb-ft of torque makes the Silverado High Desert the most powerful engine in its class.

The High Desert model marks the first Silverado to be offered with Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which enables precise body motion control. Every millisecond, the sensors read the road, triggering a direct response in as little as five milliseconds to its electronically controlled schock absorbers. Filled with magneto-rheological fluid containing minute iron particles, once hinder with a hint of a magnetic charge, the particles align for appropriate resistance.

The High Desert Package combines the durable purpose of a Silverado with the luxury and technological advancements of one of our Suburbans. Make your way to MidMo Powerhouse to experience one of these monsters for yourself.

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Is Taking On The World By Storm

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is taking on the world by storm.  Mark Reuss, Executive Vice President of Global Product Development, believes the coupe will compare well to any sports coupe, at any price, and in any setting. It offers incredible performance – acceleration, handling, and braking – with the highest level of technology and perfect chassis damping.

The new supercharged  6.2L V-8 engine estimate at 640 HP (477 kW) and either six-speed manual transmission with active rev matching or an all-new 10-speed automatic leave nothing to be desired. The structure of the new sixth-Gen Camaro is stiffer and lightweight. It has a Magnetic Ride suspension and an electronic limited-slip differential.

All exterior elements play a part in managing the airflow over, under and through the ZL1. The lower grille has an opening that allows greater airflow and the upper grille incorporates a new version of the “flow-tie” open bow-tie insignia. The ZL1 also has a new hood with a carbon fiber insert and heat extractor, which pulls heat from the engine compartment. The front splitter, unique rockers, a wing-style rear spoiler and wider front fenders are all tuned to improve the aerodynamics for high-speed stability.

Mid Missouri Powerhouse cannot wait for the 2017 Camaro ZL1 to make its way to their lot late this year. Mid Missouri Powerhouse believes it will be a great addition to the Chevrolet family and customers will fall in love.
