2016 Malibu Hybrid Wins Connected Green Car of the Year

Green Car Journal chooses Chevy Malibu Hybrid based on fuel economy, available technology

It has yet to show up at our central Missouri Chevrolet dealer, but the 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid already has an impressive award under its belt. The all-new 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid earned Green Car Journal’s 2016 Connected Green Car of the Year. Chevy beat out brands such as Audi and BMW for the honors.

"When you put the customer at the center of everything you do, you provide vehicles that enable the things customers are most looking for today, which is efficiency, connectivity, and more," Steve Majoros, Chevrolet marketing director, said. "... we're proud of what the all-new 2016 Malibu Hybrid delivers and equally proud of our second recognition from Green Car Journal this year."

Borrowing from the Volt powertrain, the Malibu Hybrid is estimated to reach up to 47 mpg combined. However, the new Malibu Hybrid is about more than just great fuel efficiency. Green Car Journal awarded the Malibu Hybrid its latest award based on the class-leading technology that is available for Jefferson City Chevrolet fans.

Let’s start with the latest first. The newest addition to Chevrolet’s plethora of technology is the smartphone integration. With Apple CarPlay, you can integrated your iPhone with your Malibu Hybrid and use approved apps such as navigation, music apps and getting text message read aloud.

Back and better than ever is the available 4G LTE Wi-Fi. Not only will your Malibu save on gas, but your Chevy will become a mobile hotspot. You can connect up to seven devices to the Internet at once, making the Malibu Hybrid a great choice for a road trip sedan, family vehicle or both!

Safety features on the Malibu Hybrid include, but are not limited to, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and the new Teen Driving mode which allows you to pre-set functions and controls for your new teen drivers.

Chevy Camaro SS Tops Ford Mustang GT in Car and Driver Comparison Test

The recent advancements in muscle car technology make the segment more popular and formidable than ever. Muscle cars are lighter, fast and surprisingly more fuel efficient than in the early ‘60s. Car and Driver recently took the two newest examples of American muscle cars — the 2016 Chevy Camaro SS and the 2015 Ford Mustang GT — to a curvy, twisty track in southeast Ohio to see which one reigns supreme.

If you’ve read the headline, you probably know who wins already. When the muscle cars were first introduced in the 1960s, Ford’s Mustang took the early headlines, but now Ford is trying to catch up to Chevrolet. But why and how did Chevrolet top the blue oval in this muscle car test?

Both competitors took their V8 engines to the testing grounds. Ford brought its 435-horsepower V8 while Chevrolet brought the 455-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 found only in the SS. But Car and Driver didn’t just give Chevrolet the award based on horsepower along — Chevy’s muscle car like those at Mid MO Powerhouse earned this victory.

Car and Driver called the new Camaro’s interior an improvement over the 2014 and 2015 models. Functions such as the switch gear are intuitive in the updated cabin, and the new 2016 Chevrolet comes with available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. The MyLink infotainment system will provide you with the maps, navigation and more that you may find yourself needing.

Chevrolet cut nearly 100 pounds even from a fully-loaded 2SS trim such as the one Car and Driver tested. The SS trims handle so well, you might think you’re driving the Z/28 track versions!

With lower weight, higher power, more gears, and greater grip, the Camaro walked all over the Mustang in our performance testing,” Eric Tingwall of Car and Driver said. “Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber helps produce a Porsche-like 147-foot stopping distance ... In a straight line, breaking four seconds to 60 mph put the Chevy half a second ahead of the Ford, a gap that grew to 0.7 second by the end of quarter-mile.”

Overall, the 2016 Camaro seemed to beat the Mustang is nearly every performance area. To learn more about the 2016 Camaro or to schedule a Camaro test drive in central Missouri, contact the Mid MO Powerhouse online or give us a call at 573-799-4618!

More About 2017 Chevy Bolt’s Electric Powertrain

Balance of range, performance focus of engineers and designers for Chevrolet’s new all-electric hatchback

With the reveal of Chevrolet’s latest endeavor, the 2017 Bolt EV looks to add an all-electric punch to Chevy’s offerings. The Bolt is scheduled to go on sale in 48 states, and that includes Missouri and the Mid MO Powerhouse.

What’s amazing is not just the electric powertrain itself (which is amazing) but also the capabilities of the Bolt. General Motors estimates the Bolt to have an EV range of more than 200 miles on a full charge. The drivability of the Bolt feels more like a sedan than a small hatchback which will make some hybrid sedan fans feel better about the Bolt. The chief engineer of the Bolt knew this would be an important point for hybrid owners.

“Being the leader in range and affordability means nothing if the car isn’t going to excite you each time you get behind the wheel,” Josh Tavel, Chevrolet Bolt EV chief engineer, said. “That’s why the team was tasked with delivering a propulsion system that would also make the Bolt EV an electric vehicle that owners would love to drive.”

Bolt’s battery

The Chevrolet Volt has logged more than a billion miles in its lifetime across the U.S., and the crews at Chevy found what works and applied it to the Bolt. An all-new cell and battery resulted from a partnership with LG Electronics helps the 200-mile estimated range.

The battery system is 960 pounds of total weight and consists of 288 lithium ion cells and a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. According to Chevrolet, the battery uses active thermal conditioning, similar to the Chevrolet Volt, to keep the battery operating at its optimum temperature, which results in solid battery life performance.

Bolt’s drive unit

The new Chevy Bolt EV can reach 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds which is impressive for an all-electric vehicle. Chevrolet said the electric motor is capable of producing up to 266 lb.-ft. torque and 200 horsepower.

Silverados Lead the Way in Technology and Connectivity

Available 4G LTE Wi-Fi on new Silverados at central MO Chevy dealer serve as mobile office

More than 1.4 million Chevys equipped with the optional 4G LTE connectivity have been sold since mid-2014, and nearly 500,000 of those are Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD trucks.

If you live in central Missouri and work in areas where the service is not the greatest, or you work out in the field on a near-daily basis, you may need to take your work with you. The new 2015 and 2016 Silverado trucks at the Mid MO Powerhouse have available 4G LTE wi-fi, and the new 2016 models are compatible with Apple CarPlay and, coming soon, Android Auto.

Don’t be left waiting for that email to send or have to skip the conference call if you’re working outdoors. With the Silverado and its wi-fi, you can connect up to seven devices. Your crew’s truck will now be there office on the long days. The Silverado creates a hotspot that has a stronger connection than your smartphone or tablet.

The wi-fi will work up to 50 feet around the truck. Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Marketing, said, “Based on usage rates for features such as OnStar, 4G LTE, and RemoteLink, Chevrolet’s technologies deliver real-world benefits for our customers — and are a competitive advantage for our brand.”

The new 2016 Silverados have the latest technology with the smartphone integration availability. Your new Chevrolet MyLink touchscreen can be synced with your smartphone to let you use safely-approved functions such as hands-free calling and music apps.

Not a Silverado fan? Chevrolet is the only automaker to offer 4G LTE connectivity across its full-range of retail cars, trucks and crossovers. No matter what your taste in Chevrolet is, you’ll have the 4G LTE capability to back it up.
