Ruggedness Runs in the Family: Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Thrives at the Pavement’s Edge

2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2
So many future-shaping and amazing events have taken place over the last few years here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse, where numerous intense changes have left their mark on the auto industry! Off-roading is now so popular that these capable and gritty trucks are selling faster than automakers can build them, and they now come in so many exciting shapes and sizes. The ZR2 package was originally offered in 1994, when “Friends” was popular on TV and the grunge/alternative sound was huge in the music scene!

The innovative and capable ZR2 namesake is now returning to the third-generation Colorado and has its rebellious and thrill-seeking eyes on the Ford Ranger Raptor and incoming Toyota TRD Pro. Starting with the expert and back-country knowledgeable AEV Outfitter’s expertise, the Colorado ZR2 is amazing at outperforming the competition courtesy of class-leading ground clearance and class-exclusive 35-inch tires.

Multimatic dynamic spool valve DSSV dampers offer highly repeatable and consistent characteristics that also bring amazingly enhanced tunability to the table. The Carbuzz.com auto review experts spent a crevice and ravine-conquering week with the ZR2 Bison this spring and first off remarked at just how amazed they were with its ability to dominate many challenging types of terrain. Their tester was painted in a bee-keeping & boisterous Nitro Yellow, with its presence being smartly announced with its 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

These are snugly wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Territory Mud-Terrain Tires, which you’ll only spot elsewhere on tough-terrain titans such as the Jeep Gladiator. Boron skid plates and rocker protectors, AEV bumpers, wider fender flares, and Chevy’s “Flowtie” badge are a few of the other unique and obstacle-inclined additions to the mix. There’s also a full-size spare tire mounted in the bed, prepped and fully ready for any unexpected punctures not aligned with your plan! The tall proportions enjoyed with the Bison’s secure build provide some of the best clearances for off-roading in the entire segment.

There’s now an extra 1.5 healthy and much-needed inches of ground clearance from the standard ZR2, along with a 38.2-degree approach angle and 26.9-degree breakover. These steep-incline-ready stats healthily beat out the Gladiator Rubicon and Mojave minus their own AEV suspension and tires. The ZR2 comes very well-equipped in its standard form, with a few optional extras that add a luxury touch to the rock-conquering excitement. You can add perforated leather as part of a ZR2 Convenience Package III, which automatically adds the Safety Package by default.

This offers the watchful high-tech eyes of a rear armrest, driver seat memory, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless charger along with blind-zone steering assist and rear cross-traffic braking. The on-board technology is top-notch offering an 11.3-inch touchscreen as standard across the range, which is powered by Google. This is the base of operations for the HD Surround Vision camera system, which features a built-in camera underneath the truck. There’s even a sweet built-in washer to eliminate any mud you may pick up on the lens while conquering the nearest outdoor playground.

The 61.7-inch bed is comparable to other trucks in the mid-size segment, with its summer-ready towing capacity rated at 6,000 lbs. Th
e payload for the ZR2 trim is 1,423 lbs, and the engine arrives at the plateau with a unique and throaty growl that is very impressive for a 4-cylinder. As this crew had unfortunately misjudged a narrow trail covered with mud from the previous night’s rain, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison confidently trudged forward with ease!

ACTIV-ate Your Adventure: Exploring 5 Must-Know Features of the Chevy Equinox

2025 Chevy Equinox

A “summer news flash” here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse offers up more than just the coming warm weather events poised around the corner: when the rainy season is over and the pavement is begging for attention, vehicles of all types are waiting their turn on the test-drive agenda! While crossover SUVs have commanded quite a large share of the market, there are many options to choose from, and the writers on staff at The Car Guide wanted to focus on a few great reasons why the new 2025 Equinox is so awesome and well-equipped.

It’s Boxier and More Rugged:

The 2025 Equinox’s design draws a good deal of inspiration from the 3-row 2024 Chevy Traverse. It has a boxy look that is not too future-forward and a rugged stance that aligns with other popular current models. The fenders and wheel arches are squared off as well and add a visually muscular effect that wraps up the aesthetic with a formal and commanding sense. The 20-inch alloy wheels on the RS trim are now the largest ever found on an Equinox!

The Brand-New ACTIV Trim:

The Equinox is now available in the LT, RS, and ACTIV trim levels. Chevy has discontinued the entry-level LS trim and considerably raised the bar for features and performance on the current trim levels. The ACTIV trim starts things off with a unique front fascia, very cool all-terrain tires, and an available white roof rounding off a two-tone finish. 17-inch machined-faced aluminum wheels do an excellent job of rounding off the look, while the cabin features an upscale Black and Maple Sugar interior theme. The “first impression” interior aesthetic is also bumped up a very healthy notch thanks to premium Evotex leatherette and suede microfiber seating.

The Solo Lean-And-Mean Powertrain Option:

The 2025 Equinox is powered by the turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. The old 6-speed transmission is now replaced with CVT on front-wheel drive models which boosts EPA fuel ratings, and an 8-speed automatic on all-wheel drive models. These are also equipped with Normal, Snow, and All-Terrain drive modes to confidently tackle any inclement terrain that comes your way.

Going Heavy on the Super-Cool Screen Space:

Today’s driver has made a case for craving more screen space inside, when the cars of tomorrow were depicted in 1980s sci-fi films, “the larger the better” was the rule of thumb then as well. The 2025 Chevy Equinox has an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen that is more than 30% larger than before. Wireless charging has become a Powerhouse favorite over the past few years, and the Equinox offers it along with a native infotainment center which now includes Google Built-in.

A Full and Zealous Arsenal of Safety Features:

The safety features of today make every single model stand out from cars from just five years ago. Standard Chevy Safety Assist loads you up with the protective and watchful eyes of Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Intellibeam headlights. Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking is an amazing addition that has saved so many lives in the blink of an eye, and the Equinox also boasts Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Zone Steering Alert.

Turbocharged Temptation: The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Turbo V8 Model Thrills Enthusiasts as Showroom Debut Nears!

2024 Chevy Corvette Stingray
The Corvette has always enjoyed one of the most loyal fan bases in the business here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! The bloggers on staff at The Drive.AU were daydreaming about the coming of the 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 last week and reported that there is now an early-build model waiting patiently in the ranks to eventually pounce on asphalt nationwide. The co-founder of the Mid Engined Corvette Forum claims that the very first of an early-build final run of prototypes was built this year!

Public tours of the factory where these amazing ‘Vettes are assembled in Bowling Green were halted for an entire week, with the prototype in question using an ‘EX VIN”, standing for “experimental VIN.” North American dealers were allowed to preview the ZR1 during a very stealth secret meeting, where the 5.5-liter V8 was simultaneously introduced. Spy shots have been circulating of the ZR1 testing with a recently spruced-up aero package. This renders the “future star to be born” prepped and ready for action with unique alloy front wheels and a different front bonnet.

When fans hear that the next Corvette in the making is going to be the most powerful yet, this coming “Zora” variant stops even the most knowledgeable diehard dead in their tracks with extreme anticipation! The ZR1’s legendary V8 will be combined with revolutionary hybrid-electric components from the blisteringly fast (yet silent!) Corvette E-Ray. The Corvette’s previous C7 version existed as a brash and hard-lined widebody track special, offering 745 horsepower mustered up from the legendary LT5 V8.

Spy shots from the Evo.co.UK auto blog clearly showed an extra air intake added to the mix. This has been added to the rear quarter panel to double down on cooling duty that the uprated powertrain increases demand for. One of the spotted prototypes was seen cruising with an optional spoon-shaped rear wing fitted snugly on, with the incoming 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1 still expected to weigh less than its snug arch-rival in the form of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The Edmunds.com auto review crew was eager to praise the 2024 Corvette in general for its “bonkers fast capability, beautiful handling, and incredible management of tasks such as daily errands.”

The current Corvette E-Ray even comes standard with Brembo-carbon ceramic brakes, and a battery that can power the car in EV-only Stealth mode at 45 mph. In a unique class full of very high-spirited performance cars the Corvette stands out, with their test model hitting the 60-mph mark in just 3.4 seconds. You have a car whose very thrilling limits can be explored by those even with just a moderate amount of driving skill! An
optional nose-lift system uses GPS to remember steeper-than-average driveways and the Performance Traction Management software smooths out the impact of bumpy sections on demand.

21.8 mpg on a mixed driving evaluation route is not bad when you consider the exhilarating driving styles that the Corvette is known for. The current model C8’s 2LT trim offers what many perceive as the best value, featuring extras such as heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, navigation, upgraded Bose audio system, and blind spot warning with rear traffic warning. The U.S. News & World Report auto review pros claimed that the 2024 Corvette line was amazing due to its “searing acceleration, athletic handling, and excellent cargo space for the size.”

GM's Diesel Domination: Exploring America’s Last Light-Duty Diesel With The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2

2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2

While there has been plenty of buzz here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse surrounding electrification, the intense popularity of factory off-road pickups has become a force to be reckoned with! Every major brand now boasts its own version, with the Motor Trend staff noticing just how awesome and ideal for challenging terrain the Silverado 1500 ZR2 is. They are eagerly prepared to spend the next year with it, seeing if it is truly outfitted to hang with the big guns of the off-roading realm.

The Silverado ZR2 comes with a preparatory 2-inch lift and Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers. Mulimatic’s amazing and expertly-trained motorsports division has a notable history of designing, constructing, and campaigning race models for stiff competition worldwide. The shocks are a very sweet pair of upsized 1.57-inch versions of the units found on the outgoing ZR2 model. We stand proudly behind our unique trait of being the only manufacturer to include front and rear locking differentials on a factory-grade half-ton.

33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires are precisely locked and loaded for trail action of the gnarliest grade, and the 18-inch aluminum wheels with Oxide Gold accents are just begging to be dipped to strut their stuff in muddy or sandy conditions. There’s a beefy skid plate package to protect the vitals on the underside, along with a new high-tuck performance exhaust. Seeing add-ons such as this without an aftermarket badge is amazing: a wicked-cool high-clearance steel performance bumper makes for a 31.9-degree approach angle, also flaunting removable end caps that aid with the approach angle.

Off-road drive modes have been very game changing in today’s industry, and this ZR2’s one-pedal-drive terrain setting smashes the task of tackling inclines that could render an average sedan worthless within seconds! There’s a ZR2-specific grille fit with very nice integrated lighting and red-painted tow hooks to round off the exterior look. The Motor Trend crew reached in just a bit deeper into the arsenal of available extras to construct their ideal tester, which included the rearview camera mirror and power-adjustable steering column from the Technology package.

The 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six engine was the burly benefactor of a 10.1 percent horsepower bump this year, with this team also easily meeting the EPA-rated expectations of 20/22/21 mpg combined. The crew is planning to brave daily commutes in LA, along with taking on a few off-road challenges that will clearly gauge the Silverado ZR2’s aptitude. The Edmunds.com review crew was thrilled with the Silverado’s best voice recognition in the business, and the very responsive infotainment system. A Black-Out package will also become available for the HD Custom trim, and the Silverado HD Midnight Edition gets a brand-new set of 20-inch wheels.

Buyers will have a choice of Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab body styles, plus three varieties of bed length. When the Hagerty car buffs reported back about getting their hands on the current-model ZR2, they claimed that the suspension “eats up just about anything you can throw at it on the trail without compromising its highway manners.” This inline-6 emits a very telltale growl right at first idle, and every bit of its unique personality never lets you forget you’re driving a diesel. Everything included here along for the ride in the ZR2 feels consistently special, and will always remain unique for its superior performance and daily-drive practically.

Turbocharged, Budget-Friendly, and Tech-Savvy: Unveiling the 2025 Trailblazer

2024 Chevy Trailblazer

Crossover SUVs make up a very large percentage of new vehicles driven happily off the lot here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! Their capability, great looks, and constant upgrades to keep up with the competition have made for excellent additions to any family’s driving regimen. The deadline-minded and busy staff of the GM Authority blog had a great feature this week on the 2025 Trailblazer’s new EBS-compatible engine and other updates.

The Trailblazer offers the LS, LT RS, and Activ trims, with front-wheel drive as standard across the line, and 4-wheel drive available as an option. There’s an excellent selection of extra equipment to choose from, with features such as an available Panoramic Sunroof to fully enjoy the many fine elements of the coming spring season! The Cold Weather Package was new for the 2024 model year, bringing along a heated steering wheel, heated driver and front passenger seats, a wrapped steering wheel, and wrapped shift knob.

There are now 8 exterior paint colors, with Pearl Tricoat, Marina Blue Metallic, and Nitro Yellow Metallic standing out as vibrant and diverse choices. Under the hood resides the turbocharged 1.2-liter I3 LBP engine, cranking out 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The Driver Confidence Package still offers the watchful and protective high-tech eyes of Lane Change Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Park Assist.

A few other very appealing dealer options are the durable All-Weather Floor liners and mats, offering up the ability to weather a bit of sand-or-mud-inflicted wear and tear. The Truecar.com auto review staff eagerly praised the 2025 Trailblazer for “being one of the sharpest-dressed SUVS on the road”, with excellent fuel economy and abundant passenger space. Verified user reviews are some of the most genuine and real-world means of seeing just how a model’s performance attributes truly measure up.

In the Truecar.com digital review log, a driver who had lived with the 2024 Trailblazer for the past year enthusiastically claimed that she “loved the style, the seats are excellent, and (she) had received many compliments on the outside color and wheels.” The two-tone aesthetic of the exterior color scheme was received quite well last year, along with the placid simplicity of the digital instrumentation.

Another satisfied Trailblazer owner remarked that the roomy interior and great features of the LT Model kept him constantly sold on his choice, along with zippy acceleration and an ideal amount of space. The look and feel of the dash and leather was also a very welcoming place for this satisfied buyer to spend time, as they were commuting about 40 miles each way to work instead of the half-as-much national average. Another driver in Detroit who was thrilled with her choice referred to the main screen display as the coolest and most efficient of any vehicle she had ever owned!

The Kia Sorento, Ford Edge, and Honda Passport all encounter an amazingly hefty dose of competition from the Trailblazer, which is situated in a position to remain the most sought-after budget crossover out there. The rear legroom proved to be excellent during their hour-long drive, and they also loved the programmable hands-free power liftgate. With styling that’s very easy on the eyes and a large dose of athleticism, the 2025 Trailblazer will surely turn many budget-savvy and tech-loving heads.

Pushing Boundaries In Time for Spring’s Bounty: Chevy Silverado 2500 HD First Drive

2024 Silverado 2500 HD

We love everything about how the
Silverado 2500 HD performs and looks here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! Its first-class towing capabilities, great looks, and undeniable charm have made it many lifelong friends, along with a few sworn enemies of the naturally jealous variety! The lead development engineer from the Motor City that helped make the Silverado so awesome recently took it down under to Australia’s Sunshine Coast this month, to show the AU media the higher points of this world-class machine.

The first order of business was a demonstration of the Trailer App, which allows you to set specific profiles for each trailer. This helps with precise mileage tracking, reminders for scheduled maintenance, and all-important tire sensors. The 2500 HD series first gets down to business by swapping out a 6.2-liter gas V8 for the monstrous and menacing 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8, which cranks out 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. The independent front suspension allows each wheel on the same axle to move independently from others, which helps to take on the challenges of the road and offer more traction, and stability.

It's a unique powerhouse that was designed to take the stress out of large haul scenarios, with the HD wearing a cutthroat and sought-after industry badge of a 20-ton hauling ability. Even the exterior is expertly configured for maximum practicality, with its extra split-level side mirrors, different door shapes, and slightly lower height. The LTZ premium trim line adds the river-fording goodness of the Z71 off-road suspension package, sprucing things up with two inches of extra ground clearance, a 13.5-inch infotainment display, and very attractive high-quality leather.

One of the most ingenious additions to a truck is the 14 HD camera views that cover a 360-degree area around the Silverado and are a huge help with preparing loads and difficult parking jobs. This is quite an enormous hunk of steel to be at the helm of on narrow and muddy trails, even with the very competent AWD system that handles power delivery duty. After hunkering down and getting used to everything, all these hard-working and efficient components made the testing crew immediately remark: “Oh, what a machine it is!”

Adaptive cruise control is now standard on the HD and it shows up with its sleeves rolled up and ready for work with its' trailer load sensor. The entire HD line also saw a few other updates for 2024 with C-shaped running lights on the upper trim levels. You can also opt for the All-Star Edition, which takes the coolest of the premium cabin elements and stuffs them into a 100% rig-approved package. It includes dual-zone climate control as well as three extra 3-prong 120 Volt outlets throughout the truck to help power all the big stuff for the troupe.

The much beefier 12.0-inch rear axle helps with handling the mammoth payloads, and the Motor1.com staff claimed that all the new goodies “make it even more appealing as an everyday HD truck.” With the gooseneck option, you’ll be towing up to 22,500 lbs, and the U.S. News team loved the HD’s flexible tailgate that could be used as load stops, steps, or even a way-above-par makeshift work surface. With Ford rolling out the new Super Duty at the same time, we know that the Silverado HD has a few lofty aspirations to make good on. Even though this is excellent and incredibly hard-working machinery, it now caters to the segment that puts as high a priority on comfort as anything else!

Cargo Kingdom: The 2024 Chevy Trax 2RS Review - Where Space Meets Adventurous Affordability!

2024 Chevy Trax
Compact SUVs have enjoyed their well-deserved time in the spotlight over the past few years here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! As drivers of all types are on the hunt for an economical and modern vehicle, the 2024 Chevy Trax has been completely redesigned for the current model year. This redesign resulted in a refreshed compact SUV that is easier on the pocketbook to boot. The review staff on duty at the CarPro blog took a close look at the new Trax this week, first loving its sharp lines, front views like a Blazer, boomerang-style rear taillights, roof rails, and rear spoiler.

The 19” machined wheels add a distinct urban flair that is ideal for setting your driver’s sights on the coming of spring, and under the hood is a 1.2-liter inline 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that cranks out 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The head auto editor claimed that with the Trax’s lightweight frame, this engine still does well at powering the entire party and remaining very efficient! Once inside the 2RS package, there’s a well laid-out interior waiting, with this one sporting a black interior and red accents all around, and rich black gloss trim on the center console.

After reviewing numerous sedans and crossovers over the past few years, this writer appreciated how thoroughly attractive the interior was at this appealing price point. It features Evotex seating materials, which look like leather and are very simple to keep clean. There is an 8” color driver information screen that is very easy to read, with an 11” touchscreen situated directly on the center dash. This shows the rear camera, controls the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth, the 6-speaker sound system, Wi-Fi hotspot, and Sirius XM.

As you prepare to hit the interstate or plan to quickly meet your favorite work buddies for frisbee golf, you’ll enjoy the abundant back seat leg and headroom, where you could easily seat 3 adults if needed! There are also two USB-C ports in the backseat to keep everything properly charged. The Trax boasts 26 cubic feet of cargo that is amply covered, with the cover raising up when you decide to lift the tailgate. Everyone will love the safety features of the Driver Confidence Package, which provides rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert with blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise.

Fuel economy is rated at 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway,
and 30 mpg overall, which pairs nicely with the 6-speed transmission and overall quality of daily drive manners. The 2024 Trax is an incredible value by today’s standards, with a top-of-the-line price point at under $30,000. The 2RS trim adds 245/45R19 all-season tires, along with the 19-inch black alloy wheels and keyless open feature. The JDPower.com review team praised the Trax for its electric-boosted rack-and-pinion steering, along with a lower center of gravity that is a bit like a hatchback car.

The KBB.com review staff posted a consumer rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars, heralding it as an industry-leading value for its roomy seating and cargo area for an extra-small SUV, available 11-inch touchscreen, and numerous driver assistance features. We hope to see you here before Easter to check out the 2024 Chevy Trax here at the Mid-MO Powerhouse. It is sharp and striking, and always entertaining to drive. Simple and straightforward yet still hitting the sweet spot in many ways, the Trax has improved its game significantly while remaining fresh and favorable!

C6 Corvette Chronicles: Racing Through History at 200 MPH – The Birth of a Sensational Icon

Since 2005, one unique and special Corvette model has consistently caught our eye here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! This was the year that the legendary C6 was released with the new Gen III 6.0-liter LS2 engine, raising the high-octane output level to 400 horsepower, along with 400 lb-ft of torque. The C6 was also the first Corvette model to feature the convenient push button ignition. The C5 Z06 was a complete scorcher on the track, with the arrival of the C6 boosting this capability even further.

The C6 featured altered and ferocious components in the form of a hydroformed aluminum structure, magnesium suspension cradles, and featherweight carbon body panels. The Z06’s powertrain was GM’s explosive and hand-built 7.0-liter LS7 engine, which was loaded up with race-friendly technology that had never been present in a ‘Vette before. Agile titanium rods and a dry sump oiling system designed for hard track use were new additions to this Z06 that could be acquired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

These cars were so proficient on the track that early production “Captured Test Fleet” Z06s had been shipped to Europe to strut their stuff at the Callaway Competition in Germany. This fantastic array of Z06-R GT3 race cars was able to dominate multiple championships, even replacing the winning C5-R expertly constructed by Pratt & Miller. During its very first “12 Hours of Sebring” race, this model had an amazing second and third-place finish, coming up hot and unwavering on the heels of the Aston Martin DBR9 Supercar

The American LE Mans GT1 Championships was the scene of another victory in 2006, where the C6-R claimed first-place victory in both events. The following year, the ‘Vette stormed the gates and swooped up top honors in the fiercely competitive GT1 class at Sebring. An esteemed panel of 50 race engine engineers also named the LS7-R powertrain the Global Motorsports Engine of the Year in 2007, in prompt preparation for its victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the ZR1-inspired C6-R in 2011. Just one year later, the winner’s board at the GTE-Am category was claimed by the ‘Vette as well.

2007 was also when GM offered the fantastic limited-edition Indy pace car tributes, with a boisterous batch of 500 painted in Atomic Orange headed for diehard fans’ driveways. These sweet models were all drop tops and were identical to the actual pilot cars driven by Patrick Dempsey. In 2009, GM determined that the best way to generate the thundering power needed for a very intensified effect was by adding an Eaton supercharger! This resulted in the first Corvette to proudly hit 200 mph, as the ZR1 was constructed around a beefy 6.2-liter LS3-derived block.

GM knew that a brand-new generation of ‘Vette prowess was in the works for 2014, so they came up with more special editions to employ every item from the diverse parts bin left over from the ZR1. This C6 offered numerous special and authentic runs such as the Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, along with more trim options than any previous generation. The 2011 Z07 Performance Package boasted unique extras such as ZR1-spec ceramic brakes, spectacular magnetic ride control, and Zero-Pressure Michelin PS2 tires planted on ZR1-themed wheels.

Corvette’s 50th anniversary at LeMans was also properly hailed with the commemorative ULZ package, which brought a unique interior, bulged carbon hood, and special badging along as honorable guests for the ride. Much like our beloved nation itself during the bicentennial year, Corvette’s 100th anniversary would not be the same without the Centennial Edition Z06. This added highlights such as Carbon Flash black metallic paint, and an Ebony leather interior with suede accents.

The C6’s final production year was 2013, with five different models to finish things out on a celebratory high note. Over nine action-packed years, 215,223 C6 Corvettes were produced, with an astounding 40,561 of them rolling off the line in 2007. Every model has a unique story, timeline, and trusty build: the spirit of winning was engrained with a sense of longstanding vigor and robust champion reign!

2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss Establishes Residency as Tree Root and Boulder-Conquering Renegade

2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss

The light-duty Silverado 1500 was praised by the
Edmunds.com review crew for staying true to its old-school roots and candor, which anyone here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse can appreciate! The future-forward environment bears a massive amount of promise and luster, but some of the remaining rigs of the current time bring about a sense of comfort and value. Presiding as one apt and incredibly able pickup truck, the Silverado 1500 is available in a variety of trim levels, beginning with the base Work Truck.

This year marks the first time that Chevy has applied the element-conquering off-road treatment to the Silverado HD, with the first arrival at the tree-root-conquering races being the suspension components from the Z71 version. The sleek new black exterior front and rear bumpers bring about a certain flair that also extends to the set of unique 20-inch wheels, and a few other details that can be made out from the single officially released image of the Silverado HD Trail Boss

The heavy-duty Trail Boss is based on LT and LTZ models, and Chevy has made a few other small changes to the Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD lineups. What’s under the hood remains a perpetually hot topic, as it is the solid foundation for the final product and the element that sets the tone for the entire package. The HD comes standard with a 401-horsepower gas-powered 6.6-liter V8, along with the Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 making 470 horses and 975 lb-ft as another option. Another cool and personal-touch additive is the Trail Boss bed decals, along with red recovery hooks.

The High Country trim will receive Adaptive Cruise Control as standard equipment in 2025, and a stealth Black-Out Package will be available on the HD custom trim. The Silverado HD rides on a beefed-up version of the GM T1 platform, with production taking place by the resilient and hard-working men and women at the GM Flint Plant in Michigan. Staying true to its roots and seeing some notable updates to the technology and interior does a lot to help this truck be more competitive when pitted up against its hulking rivals.

The Edmunds review crew nailed the 60-mph mark in about 7 seconds from a standstill, then took the HD on a drive through an urban landscape where handling held secure. The Google-powered voice recognition system allows the driver to adjust climate control or even check out the newest podcast you’ve been dying to hear! The several available exterior cameras help when parking and the rear-cross traffic warning system offers a helpful buzz when navigating retail parking lots or busy streets. The Silverado 1500 has won many of the pickiest large-size truck fans over with its loads of towing power, and a commanding view of the road.

The U.S. News & World Report auto review crew ranked the 2025 Silverado as a “well-rounded half-ton truck that’s equally at home on the job site or pulling family road-trip duty.” Easygoing handling, intuitive infotainment operation, and a lineup of potent engines make the Silverado the first choice of ranchers, contractors, and small business owners nationwide. The cabin is handsome, incredibly well-built, and filled with great tech features. Affectionately hailed for “putting its head down and going about its business”, the 2025 Silverado Trail Boss is relatable, gritty, and always down for clutching its hard-earned keep!

Trail-Tested, City-Approved: Discover the All-New 2024 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss!

Chevy Colorado Trail Boss

We would have to wholeheartedly agree with a few sentiments on trucks from the writers of the Motor1.com blog this week here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse! They claimed that modern trucks have now become “statement pieces”, as vehicles are lifted more at home in the confines of a parking lot than living and breathing dirt roads. It is very refreshing that the new Chevy Colorado offers a no-nonsense and very well-equipped off-road oriented pickup such as the Colorado Trail Boss.

For what the Trail Boss offers in the way of off-road capability, it’s an amazing bargain when stacked up with the various forms of firm-and-fitted competition. The package starts with a torquey turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder cranking out 310 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, which reaches a delightful and spry peak at around 1,250 rpm. Even without the presence of a V6, this torque stat eagerly pairs with enough disposable power to quickly inch the truck up to highway-appropriate momentum.

The ZR2 is the most powerful Colorado courtesy of its 430 lb-ft of torque, but the Trail Boss beats it out in the horsepower category with 73 more horsepower at its disposal. This 4-cylinder is an oddity of sorts in all the best ways, as it is even more powerful than the previous Colorado’s V6 and has more torque than the current Nissan Frontier’s V6. We have long recognized that the Jeep Gladiator is a huge contender in the business for those who want go-anywhere capability with a truck bed, and this Colorado offers more power all around than the Gladiator lineup.

After extreme off-road testing, the Motor1.com crew claimed that the included off-road kit is “plentiful and capable”. You’ll be blowing through the fire road or boulder-strewn location of your choice with 4-wheel drive, 32-inch all-terrain tires as standard, along with the necessary 2.0-inch suspension lift, and 3.0-inch wider track. Seasoned trail hounds have long known that you can't take on a course littered with obstacles at incredibly high speed, and here is where the automatic locking rear differential and hill descent control prove their massive worth!

Crawling over harsh terrain simply cannot be accomplished with factory-grade equipment, which is why the additional skid plate is necessary. The overall lift, tires, and bodywork result in a 30.5-degree approach angle, a 22.4-degree departure, and 21 degrees of breakover. This Colorado also now has one interesting feature that is carried over from the EV skill set: Terrain Mode is now a 1-pedal drive system. Instead of the two-foot shuffle regarding braking and throttle, this is a much simpler means of getting the job done.

This engaging test drive rendered an ideally stiff suspension, with the damping quite obviously prepped for washboard basins and rough roads. The thicker off-road tires help soften the impact of cracked pavement, and here it was deemed that there is no other truck this capable for the price. The Convenience Package adds cruise control. Another very cool addition to splurge on is the amazing and radiant red paint. Wilderness-ready, capable, and all-around fun, this is the truck that Car and Driver claimed was a “Mid-size king, vastly superior to its predecessor inside and out.”

Driven to Delight: Chevy Corvette Tops Consumer Reports Satisfaction Index Once Again

2024 Chevy Corvette

After its memorable introduction to the public in a California hangar, the C8 Corvette has been in the award-winning spotlight for the past few years here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse. The Consumer Reports team has once again deemed the Corvette as the most satisfying vehicle to own by publication members, reaffirming just how amazing it feels to reign as a champion! Engine performance, technology features, and comfort have all seen expectations rise drastically over the past few years, and presiding as the best comes from incredibly hard work and expertise.

Their official report saw the C8 nailing down a score of 93/100, which pulls out into the fast lane ahead of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Lexus NX Plug-in-Hybrid, and Rivian R1T. To compile the data for this award, CR analyzed the results of the 2023 Annual Auto Survey, which included findings from more than 330,000 participating vehicles. These ranged from 2021 to 2023, along with a few brand-new 2024 models. The cumulative score is based on the percentage of participants that enjoyed the car enough to buy it again.

The C8 is now offered as the Stingray, C8 Z06, and C8 E-Ray. The Stingray’s sensational power source is the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 LT2 gas engine, confidently cranking out 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The Z06 steps things exhilaratingly up with the naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 LT6 gas engine, which cranks out 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The E-Ray sets a compelling precedent for the future by combining the LT2 powertrain with an electric motor on the front axle to ultimately boost horsepower output up to 655.

The C8 Corvette models ride on the GM Y2 platform and are assembled at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. The newly released J.D. Power 2024 U.S. ALG Residual Value Awards selected the 2024 Chevy Corvette as one of the vehicles offering the highest three-year residual value beyond the purchase point. This gives the vet another valuable accolade as presiding ruler of the Mid-Size Premium Sporty Car category. The winners were chosen from a variety of 293 models produced by 15 prominent manufacturers.

The C8 Stingray and C8 Corvette E-Ray were also recognized by Car and Driver with a coveted spot on their 10Best for 2024 roundup. After extensive testing, these editors determined that you can “Flog it at the track on Saturday, then cruise to search it on Sunday. Mount some winter tires and enjoy it year-round!”. The E-Ray was specifically highlighted for its impressive performance, with its onboard hybrid system contributing to the sports car’s lightning-fast prowess.

Blasting up to 60 mph takes place in just 2.5 seconds, rendering the E-Ray the fastest Corvette that the publication has ever gotten their hands on. During their time on the track, the publication also billed the C8’s interior as “the best Corvette cabin Chevy has ever made.” The Z06 also proved here just how special the C8 can be, with its exotic mid-engine design, and persistent 8,600 rpm-screaming engine. With the chassis undergoing extensive design to compensate for more power, the engine steps in to iron out any small issues. The ‘Vette’s low-slung stance, immediate steering response, and brash cornering attitude have drivers completely amazed after each exciting stint.

Behind the Lens: Exclusive Live Gallery Glimpses of the 2024 Chevy Traverse LS Sport Edition

2024 Chevy Traverse

As the hot summer’s activities filled our calendars last July here at the Mid Missouri Powerhouse, we were busy pouring over news tidbits regarding future releases. Barbecues, ball games, and lake trips are excellent fare for the sunny and hot days, which we admit we are missing a bit right now! The 2024 Chevy Traverse was released in mid-July of 2023 and represents the third generation of our competent and large-sized 3-row crossover. The GM Authority blog recently ran a story that showcased a set of photos depicting the Traverse LS Sport Edition in Summit White and outfitted with the very awesome Sport Edition Package.

This adds black exterior accents and differs from the Midnight Edition by offering other available colors than just black. The front end still features Chevy’s dual-tier headlights, which designers and enthusiasts have now billed as the “Highbrow theme.” This design provides a formidable split from the horizontally oriented daytime running lamps. There was one slightly off-beat detail in the presentation: the model pictures were present minus the black grille that is typically standard of the Sport Edition, with the actual grille expected to be included in this batch of photos

The first glance of the profile view reveals a set of 20-inch-high gloss black-painted aluminum wheels that come included with the Sport Edition package. The tires wrapping the stealth black wheels are 255/55R20 all-season black walls, with a few of the other Sport Edition details including the high gloss black door upper and low gloss black belt moldings plus black badges and nameplates. Without the telltale roof rails on top, this narrows down the vehicle shown to the public as the Traverse LS trim.

We also noticed the “shark fin” C-Pillar treatment on all the 2024 Traverse models, with the model pictured showing taillights specifically integrated with a black horizontal aesthetic across the tailgate, and quad exhaust tips inset directly into the rear bumper. There is a truck-like aesthetic happening here that is sure to offer the Traverse a healthy dose of extra muscle, which holds onto the solid bones while reinventing nearly everything else. The third-generation Traverse rides on the brand-new Global B electronic architecture and sports the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4 LKO gas engine.

This powertrain cranks out 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a GM-8-speed automatic transmission. Production of this third-generation model is now set to begin in February at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan, which is GM’s newest plant in North America. Here there are 3.6 million square feet dedicated to constructing Chevy greats, along with nearly 3000 dedicated and hard-working employees. As the Cars.com staff settled in to review the Traverse, they first reflected that it was “meant to look and act more like an SUV, beginning with the new exterior.”

The Z71’s front styling includes a beefy aluminum skid plate and red tow hooks, along with an expertly designed unique all-wheel drive system. The added touch of a quad exhaust tip provides an aggressive aesthetic, and tech-obsessed drivers will love the standard 17.7-inch touchscreen display. The screen extends to the border, then offers the driver an 11-inch configurable digital instrument panel. Another excellent cargo-friendly feature of the new Traverse is its auto sense power lift gate, which automatically senses your presence and prevents extra time wasted fumbling for your key.

Beyond the Plug: The 2025 Chevy Equinox Adds More Screen Space, Next-Level Drive Modes

The versatile and appealing Chevy Equinox was able to celebrate 2023 as quite a successful year here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse: it’s a 5-passenger vehicle with a heaping amount of charm, and the best-selling vehicle next to the Silverado pickup! The Equinox has not yet made the move to embrace a hybrid option, but the 2025 Equinox model is on track to hit lots with plug-in charm and efficiency. It is slated to use a completely different architecture boasting a sleeker look, sheet metal, and various new parts.

The Equinox’s exterior styling on deck for next year looks more rugged and truck-like, while still deriving power from the 175-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder. There will be two new transmissions specifically engineered to boost well-shifting bandwidth and off-the-line power. Front-wheel drive versions get a continuously variable transmission that sees a modest drop in peak torque from 203 lb-ft to 184. All these changes are engineered to guarantee the Equinox a better response time and fuel economy, along with new off-road and snow-drive modes.

The Equinox can now tow 800 pounds in the front-wheel drive version, and 1,500 lbs with the AWD model. The overall stance is 2.3 inches wider, and the goods have been slightly lifted to share some cool traits with its relative in the form of the Traverse. For an extra dose of stealth attitude and more interior room, the roof line now goes straight back and gives the entire vehicle a boxier look. With the wheel wells still possessing a squared-off look, this adds a more curvaceous and accentuated visual flow.

Active-spec Equinoxes will now be spruced up with a white two-tone roof, a Cacti exterior color, and standard 17-inch all-terrain tires. Taking a cue from the revved-up and heavily capable Colorado family, each trim has a unique fascia to set it visually apart. Every manufacturer out there with their head firmly rooted in the game has made more features standard across their lineups, and Chevy has gone to extremes to do the same with the Equinox.

Designers and high-up execs alike wanted to ensure that the LT was not a completely entry-level and bare-bones trim and were hard at work adding a dozen top-notch safety features as standard. You can help prevent intersection mishaps, stay in the proper lane, and detect vehicles in your blind spot along with anything obstructing your rear pathway. Screen space has been a huge selling point with many customers over the past two years, and manufacturers have risen to the occasion by jumping quickly at demands for enhancement. The Equinox now has an 11.0-inch driver display and an 11.3-inch touchscreen, representing a 4-inch gain from the outgoing model.

Even though the Equinox has fared amazingly well as a budget-minded option for today’s consumer, it still possesses the class and charm to chauffeur the visiting client or instigate a formal night out. The 2025 model’s upgraded electronics allow for easier over-the-air software updates, and heated front seats and steering wheel come standard on all trims. The sense of practicality the Equinox possesses was always capable of intersecting amazingly with gift-wrapped and once unattainable charm. The Driving.ca review staff was thrilled with the AWD models and the 8-speed automatic, as well as the undeniably classy interior.

Mountains, Mudslinging, and More: Z71 Off-Road Trim Takes Center Stage in Tahoe, Suburban Sales

Our full-size SUVs have always been a customer favorite here at the Mid Missouri Powerhouse, as many drivers are looking for large-scale people movers to get the job done! The Tahoe and Suburban both offer six very sweet trim levels, with a variety of different styles and features to hit the road with. There’s the entry-level LS, the mid-range LT, the trail-ready Z71, the sportier RST, the upper-end Premier, and top-of-the-line High Country.

This assortment offers up many different features that have added to our brand’s appeal for so many decades, but there’s one trim level that stands out from the rest as far as popularity. Chevy marketing exec Todd Brown claimed that the Z71 trim level accounts for 23 percent of the total vehicle sales of this sturdy pair, which could be surprising to some. For the 2024 model year, some of the Z71’s highlights include two front-mounted red recovery hooks, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and the all-protecting performance front skid plate.

The adaptive air ride suspension allows for on-the-spot adjustments that assist with off-roading and challenging terrain, and 4-wheel-drive is included as standard. Demand for the Tahoe and Suburban’s Z71 models is expected to increase over the next year, since GM is offering both models with a 3.0-Liter I6 LZO turbodiesel Duramax. This powertrain is a replacement for the 3.0-Liter I6 LM2 turbodiesel and cranks out 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque minus a long crank. You can take things to the next level with the naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V8 L84 gas engine, proudly affixed to the GM T1 platform.

The 2024 Suburban comes equipped with a massive interior, high towing capacity, and newly revised infotainment system. The Suburban has been in continuous production longer than any other vehicle in the nation. The Suburban is 15 inches longer than the Tahoe, with an incredibly useful 16 cubic feet of additional cargo room behind the 3rd-row seats. This has long been known as America’s quintessential hauling king and remains a strong contender for any operation that deems itself a full-fledged fleet.

So many drivers love that the Suburban is one of the most spacious vehicles out there that isn’t a van, while also exuding so much more personality than other large SUV models. Here, this popular Z71 trim offers uphill descent control, a unique front fascia to improve ground clearance, and a very stunningly cloaked black and dark chrome exterior trim.

The 2024 Tahoe is incredibly popular for its spacious cabin, excellent technology features, and wide variety of engine choices. It is rugged and yet still very well domesticated. The Z71 trim is perfect for this vehicle which is a workhorse with a dutiful penchant for wandering in the wild. Without completely over-reaching, the Z71 treatment adds the cool extras of chunky all-terrain tires, the skid plate, and a distinctive honeycomb grille.

The Tahoe also snagged up the honors of the “Best Large SUV of 2024” from J.D. Power and remains a strong choice for anyone wanting to carry a lot of people or bring a trailer along for the fun. For the ultimate in off-road preparedness, the Off-Road Capability Package also offers adaptive dampers to take on the ruts and ravines of the wild.

Screen Savvy, Secure, & Sophisticated: A Sneak Peek at the 2024 Chevy Equinox

The coming of new models is as exciting here at the Mid Missouri Powerhouse as bowl game playoffs and weekends on sledding hills: there is NO reason that winter must be a dreaded season! The 2024 Chevy Equinox comes in as welcoming as a mug warmer on a cold morning and represents the seventh model year of the compact crossover’s third and final generation. As we got the snow boots and ice scrapers primed and ready, we first took note of the trim list, as the LS, 1FL, LT, 2FL, RS, and range-topping Premier reside in the ranks.

Riptide Blue Metallic and Lakeshore Blue Metallic join the color scheme, and the Confidence & Convenience Package is now standard on the LT trim. The Driver Confidence II Package now includes Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, as the 2023 models featured them as a standalone option. Value pricing has become crucial over the past 3 years, and the Equinox has cheerfully risen to the occasion of providing current-level greatness on a budget.

The 2024 Chevy Equinox is powered by a 175-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, along with front or all-wheel drive. The Kelley Blue Book team deemed the Equinox comfortable enough on the highway, and adequately nimble for daily driving. Rear-seat legroom is an area where the Equinox thoroughly excels when pitted against the competition, while also offering 29.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. The RS trim takes things to a much sportier level with unique front styling, black Chevy badging, 19-inch black wheels, and very cool red interior stitching.

The Standard Safety Tech suite now includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, a following distance indicator, and automatic high beams. The Midnight Edition offers a darkened aesthetic that nicely blacks out the aluminum wheels, front and rear bowtie emblems, body-color mirror caps, and unique grille. As we closely examined user reviews right here in Missouri, one very satisfied owner claimed that she loved the “above average power, features that compare with the Rav4 and CRV, and sweet added touch of the power moon roof for lighting at night.”

The U.S. News auto review crew was excited with the Equinox’s high-performing ability to “tick all the boxes needed for a family-friendly vehicle with a small footprint.” Their test drive saw them discovering and enjoying the Equinox’s very spacious cabin, balanced ride and handling, and excellent fuel economy. The front row offers very comfortable seats and plenty of passenger room, and the Equinox is well worth checking out if you are after a family-friendly and spacious SUV with numerous driver assistance features.

The Premier trim offers luxe features such as a larger touch screen, very useful wireless charging, and posh leather upholstery. The LT trim still offers a robust list of features for great value, and it comes equipped with the same powertrain eagerly showing up for duty across the entire lineup. For just a slight bump up from the base trim, you’ll enjoy power-adjustable front driver’s seats, heated front seats, and a power liftgate, along with a 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster. Their extensive review and comparison had also found that the Ford Escape’s 3-cylinder engine was much noisier than the Equinox’s, and that its fuel economy helps it claim “budget-minded champion” status.

Efficiency Meets Excitement: The Turbocharged Heart of the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

As we may be not-so-eager to shovel driveways and count the inches of powder here at the Mid-Missouri Powerhouse, we are always anticipating incoming details for amazing new releases! The Chevy Traverse is a feature-rich and practical 3-row SUV that has found its sweet spot nestled in between the Chevy Blazer and full-size Tahoe. The incoming model was unveiled last July at the Lansing Delta Township Assembly, as Chevy VP Scott Bell claimed that he was very confident the new Traverse would continue to rise in the ranks of popularity.

The last generation of Traverse claimed a trusty 3.6-liter V6 cranking out 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, and this brings to our attention one very admirable feature of the incoming 4-cylinder. It rises to the occasion by still cranking out 328 horsepower and enjoys a massive torque spike resulting in 326 lb-ft as compared to the V6’s 266. The previous generation approached the table with a very capable 9-speed automatic, while the incoming model’s 8-speed offers better drive quality, is more fuel efficient, and is lighter.

The all-new Traverse boasts a tow rating of 5,000 pounds, which is enough to provide the necessary grunt for an exciting lake day or impromptu college student storage pod haul! The 8-speeed automatic sends power to the front wheels except on the Z71 trim, equipped with a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system that is appealing (and trail-ready!) standard fare. The Traverse’s exterior drew inspiration from the full-size Tahoe, with a very prominent and taller front end, and a large Chevy bowtie in the middle of a bar right on the grille.

Passengers in the third row will benefit from the Traverse’s larger rear quarter-glass panel, and the RS trim now replaces the Premier and High Country. The RS trim now exists as the premium-level offering, riding in style with 22-inch high-gloss black wheels and blackout accents on the grille, roof rails, and moldings. It also comes prepared for any rougher caliber of roads ahead with a sports-tuned suspension, and there are well-placed red accents with the dark interior as a backdrop. Power-folding third-row seats come in quite handy during any winter excursion with more onboard, such as trying your hand at an afternoon of ice skating near Pointer’s Creek!

The LS trim comes standard with 8-passenger seating, with all other trims offering up room for seven and captain’s chairs on the second row. There’s an available second-row bench that still suffices for 8 in a pinch, and all Traverse trims come properly equipped for the next airport run with a max cargo capacity of 98 cubic feet. This cold and blustery month also welcomes another exciting milestone for Chevy, as this is the first unibody SUV with the Z71 Off-Road Package.

Enjoying brand-new Traverse ownership just got that much more awesome, as the Z71 Package features off road tuned suspension, twin-clutch AWD, and the challenging incline-ready Hill-Descent Control. There is also now an automatic Autosense Liftgate included for the first time on the Traverse, which quickly opens the liftgate if it senses your key fob hovering near the rear of the vehicle. The Motor Trend crew was thrilled with the massive 17.7-inch infotainment screen upgrade, which is angled directly towards the driver and ready to please the masses who are constantly on the quest for bigger and better.

Mule Mentality: Testing the Grit and Tenacity of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 – Chevy's Off-Road Workhorse

2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2

Many trucks that exist as diehard legends have brandished likenesses to some very amazing stories during their journeys. The Car and Driver crew took a good look at a historic event in a recent article about a miner in California who began digging a tunnel through a mountain in California’s unforgiving Mojave Desert. The time was 1902, and primitive elements made this an incredibly difficult task. It took him three long decades to complete the job, and his tunnel then appeared on a ledge just above the very scenic valley.

It is possible to embark down a dirt road to view this incredibly dedicated individual’s work, but it happens to be a treacherous journey full of silt and small obstacles. These conditions make all of us here at the Mid Missouri Powerhouse realize that trucks such as the Chevy Colorado ZR2 are the ultimate weapon when it comes to navigating what initially appears as an area that cannot be conquered. Much like the mules that assisted this gritty icon during the job, the Colorado is very stubborn, sure-footed, and capable of weathering any storm. The 2023 model grew in wheelbase, ground clearance, and width dimensions, and the powertrain lineup became a bit more simplified.

Beginning to get situated with its existence in the mid-size category, each Colorado version now comes with a turbocharged 2.7 liter inline 4 cylinder paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The high-output version cranks out 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, boasting enough power to tow around 6000 pounds and zip to 60 mph in just 7.1 seconds. This is hands-down the best and most versatile off-road tackling beast in the industry, with a 3-inch lift and Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers aiding its ability to powerfully rule the wild.

Larger 33-inch tires on 17-inch wheels are a heavily armed antidote for the very rough stuff, and a completely redesigned front fascia works wonders on mastering the many challenges that are common with demanding terrain. Drive modes have made quicker responses and better performances much more accessible, and the ZR2’s “Baja” variety reigns as the true boss of holding gears longer while making for an easier slide. Inside these along with the locking front and rear differentials are simple to find, while the heated and ventilated front seats can offer segment-leading comfort even during the most inclement of conditions.

Motor Trend was thrilled immediately after they began their test drive of the ZR2, as it embodied “part racer and part shockingly refined commuter” without a hitch. We must agree that this is a vehicle that always remains unfazed no matter what is thrown at it, and for the fact that this truck stays incredibly true to its laurels and doesn’t drastically alter an already-superb recipe. Skid plates are a necessary element that can confidently protect all things good regarding the underside, and the ZR2 boasts the beefiest in existence. The Baja mode scored high points here as well, with its focused reduction of the electronic stability control intervention and its tendency to hold lower gears at a high rev point.

The masters of everything rugged at AEV outfitters lent their expert hands during the creation of the Bison Package, which adds unique wheels, even more durable Boron steel skid plates, stamped steel bumpers, and hydraulic bump stops to the package. The crew cab with a 6-foot 2-inch bed and 131.0-inch wheelbase produces many suspension configurations, and a 3.42:1 axle gear ratio assists with outright mastery of the challenging crawl.
